Whew! The honeycomb shader is finished. I've been testing it on everything in my library.

  • Awww, thank you both for your kind encouragement! I'm no genius, though. I just put coffee in my tea pot. sad

  • That is a totally unforgivable crime... wink

These shaders look fantastic. Just not sure if I could find a regular use for them. Has anyone got a surfeit of imagination? I can do with a bit more for a while. Hmm. Gingerbread house... Muffin man.. New series of 'BakeOff' doing cake based busts of the favourite characters. Maybe, maybe.

    Regards,

    Richard

I'm crying over the meowcaroni and cheese one, and I'm not sure whether it's from laughter or fear. Or both. Probably both.

Everything looks fabulous so far, and oh, that batter fried Bulwarg! I will buy these the day they drop, I've been having any amount of trouble finding realistic food items. They could spruce up so many older sets especially that have good shaping, but need better textures for close views. For whatever reason a lot of the things I'm thinking up these days involve food in them somewhere.

On that note: poultry skin. I would LOVE a crispy, roasted poultry skin shader! Also one for Generic Roasted Meat, perfect for your fantasy scene's spitted haunch. And a couple for the surfaces of a slice of bread, the interior and the crust. That seems to be one that's difficult to get to look like what it is. The cherry pie looks great, so maybe that could be played out into a basic pastry crust shader as well! I'd love to be able to have my adventurers pick up some pasties for the road before they hit it.

Hello all! Well, it's finally finished. I addressed several of the requested shaders, but--alas--there was just no way I could do them all, so if you don't see one you really wanted, look for it in the sequel. blush There are a lot of little special features to these shaders. For instance, Ice cream, Frosting, and Citrus skin all have no image in their base color channel, allowing you to change their color to your hearts content. You could make black ice cream, if you so desire. Or polka dot frosting. The apple shader has an aging texture stored in its normal and displacement maps, that allow you to whither and age your texture. Hamburger's greasiness is controlled with the top coat layer. A lot of the shaders like Ice cream, Hamburger, Bread crust and Frosting; have textures that change their looks dramatically when you change tiling, and a lot of looks are possible.

Now, I just have to package the all the data and get it sent off and tested. Fingers crossed, these are the first shaders I've ever done...

Meanwhile, here's the promo images to "whet your appetite". Ha ha ha ha, I kill me. Anyway, bon appetite!

Looks to me like it's a split view, fresh apple, apple on its way out.

Will this be only for rendering, or will it be a merchant resource?

That's it exactly. Hmmm...maybe I should put a line down the division to make it clearer...

Looks like true geometry deformation and not 2D image trickery, is this correct?

Awww, thank you! That's probably just the onion shader though.

Wait. I didn't do an onion shader...

  • Oh, those look phenomenal! That bread interior, WOW, that looks like it'll fix so many props (IDK what it is about sandwich ones but they always look like squeaky dog toys). I just bought a waffle cone prop that's in desperate need of the waffle shader. And I'm unreasonably excited about the stew.

I hope these make it through testing and into the store quickly, I need them right now!

Can I get some nuts in them there chocolates, please?

It is indeed. Each shader has a displacement map. And, of course, a normal map. Many also have bump maps that ride on top of their Normal maps. And so many translucency maps too. I have to say, food is a really difficult subject to make shaders from. Kind of explains why I haven't seen a collection like this before, not just on Daz, but anywhere out there. The plus side is that making these was like a deep level course in Substance Alchemist, and now I can make shaders that I would never have tried before.

    Hmmm...I don't know. I hadn't considered that question.

I really hope so. I was kind of counting on the peppermint candy shader making it into some Christmas themed renders.

The "waffle" shader is perfect for waffle cones! You can just turn down the normal and displacement maps until the waffle depressions are shallow like they are on a waffle cone, and adjust the tiling accordingly.

It's no hyperbole to say that I am elated at these being finished. Really, they look outstanding and offer a lot of versatility in setting up many scenes--just the stew will finally give people in taverns something to munch on. On that note, are the promos you have shown all the included shaders? Because they are a lot, but if this represents the finished product I can start coming up with a wishlist for a second edition... Will need to put some thought into it. Darn, you have been exhaustive.

Some of the best shaders are those which physically change a surface's topography and that's a big part of what makes these so astounding. Assuming it's affordable, I have a number of uses in mind, mostly for comedy and surreal art-themed ideas.

    Oh. My. God.

I wanted these before, but after seeing those preview pics I'm dying for them! You've really outdone yourself on this set. I hope it sells well, because they look AMAZING! You've done such an awesome job, I can't wait to do some renders with it for ya!

  • Deeply impressive. And, in cases, slightly revolting. The ball of stew looks like something regurgitated. Not at all pleasant - but it looks more like stew than anything else I have seen in a rendering before. Remarkable work and persistence.

    Regards,

    Richard.
