Kit Hack in Progress: Elven Steampunk Wall-mounted Gaslight
So, I read Katherine Addison's "The Goblin Emperor" (MARVELOUS book; I've been pushing it on everybody ever since), and now I have a fanart scene trying to gel in my head.
I've been noodling around with appropriate room furnishings and hit on the idea of using Dragon 3's paw as a gaslight sconce. Addison's setting seems to be a mashup of Victorian, Elizabethan, otherworldly (elvish) and faintly Chinese influences. (I say "seems to be" because she uses a terrific mechanism for her world-building: She describes only personal style in detail and uses a broad brush to paint in hints of the architecture and technology, then leaves it to the reader's imagination to color the rest as it pleases. Did I mention it's an outstanding book?)
Anyway, that's what I'm aiming for here, and this is how far I've gotten morphing the dragon paw into another design.
I like the way the texturing on the sleeve is shaping up like artisan-hammered brass, but the whole thing still feels like it needs to be tarted up a little more. At the very least, the outer rim of the fixture plate needs...something. I haven't decided what to do with it next.
