Where are all the shaders?

Seriously, I'm curious here. For poser one can find more texture files than one could shake the proverbial stick at; but for daz all I can find are the few basic ones that come with the program, some metal addons, and some stuff bundled with the supersuit sets.

I'd like to be able to find things like brushed metal, old metal, rusted and battered metal, cloth of varying textures, etc. But it's nowhere to be found... am I just missing something?

Have you tried looking in the following category yet?

    Software>Shaders and Materials

    http://www.daz3d.com/shop/software/shaders-materials/

You can then filter by program. You should find some metals and cloths for DAZ Studio there.

There's also the category 'Textures Resources':

    http://www.daz3d.com/shop/utilities-resources/texture-resources/

which does also contain some shader products too. I hope that helps.

Sadly the two links mostly go for things that're meant for a specific item or they're parts of people... I'm looking for other materials like metals in various states of new-to-worn, -basic- (read; NON LACEY) cloth, Stone and the like. Whiiiich doesn't seem to exist. XP

I'm not sure now what you are looking for - are you looking for shaders for a program or stand alone textures?

If you are looking for stand alone textures, there are a variety including cloth, stone etc.

If you are looking for DS shaders I know there is a metal pack and some fabric packs.

I'm hoping to do a pack for DS which would contain the textures you mention, but won't be for a few months I'm afraid. I do have 'Old and Worn' but that's for Bryce. I have some DS packs for wood and wall and floor textures (inlcuding stone type), but not sure if that's what you need :

Actually a Shader can be used on any item. Toon Shaders are a render thing but object shaders can be put on any item in any of the material surfaces. We have a rather large collection of Metals Woods Stones Paints Fabrics ect.. the list is very long. Would you like an example?

Here is the same dress with six different shaders, three cloth, one leather, one metal and one lace.

Just because we are clear, and because it is really confusing... Shaders and shader presets are not exactly the same thing. Shaders add the functionality to the surfaces. Daz default is the "basic" shader. Uber and its nearly identical brother the human surface shader add things like sss, velvet, translucence etc. Shader presets take advantage of those abilities. Shaders and presets can by their very nature be used on any object or surface. Unlike material presets that will only work properly on what it is intended for. In the 5 years we have been doing shader presets I have seen them used in some pretty unexpected ways. Several times I didn't even recognize my own work because I wasn't thinking far enough out of the box as far as use goes.

I have loads of free fabric shaders on ShareCG. Made for Fabricator but will work on their own. See link in my signature.

There are also several free metal, paint etc textures on ShareCG as well.

    http://www.daz3d.com/shop/sparkles-for-studio/
    http://www.daz3d.com/shop/dld-stone-shaders-for-daz-studio/
    http://www.daz3d.com/shop/dld-high-gloss-metallic-shaders-for-ds/
