Taming the Daz Dragon 3

Or making it wilder.

Decided to adopt the Dragon 3 and so I'm starting work on characters for it. This is my first experiment. One part RawArt's Wyverdreki (the base wing texture, that I'm tweaking with new color and pattern ideas), one part Dragon of Burden (the cheek horns), and one part DA's Fire Drake (the spine and bony plate props, which I've given a sort of tortoiseshell texture). I also added the Creature Creator horns to it and swapped their texture onto the dragon's built in horns. The pose is stock with minimal adjustments.

I'm working on a striped look for the wings and eventually intend to add new patterns to the whole dragon. Here's an example of the character and a closeup of the wing pattern I'm working on. The character looks like he might need the size of his head and neck reduced just a bit. Let me know if you agree or disagree...

I love what you've done with the dragon...! Looking forward to seeing more. As far as the head/neck size goes, I think I agree with you. Looks good as is, but a smaller head:body ratio might make him look a little more imposing.

Tweaked the proportions a bit to make it look less bulldog-ish. I'm also toying with changing the wings' aspect ratio by scaling the alar phalanges, but I'm not sure if I like how that stretches the texture. Depending on the pose it's something that might not be noticable, however. I think this looks a bit better, but let me know if you disagree or have any suggestions.

Also I'm not sure why the leg scale props don't seem to be attatched properly at the back of the legs. Another prop I'd like to get for the Dragon 3 is Design Anvil's glowing eyes... as of now they work on the mil dragon and sub dragon, I'd love it if this dragon could be added to the list as well. Wonder if I couldn't adapt them manually...

I've gone and made a striped body texture that is a simple modification of the standard red. Got an .xcf saved of the stripes so I can easily change the colors. Not sure yet if I want to keep the head entirely black or change it, it looks good solid from the side, but I'm not sure yet in different poses.

Here's the striped facial texture so far. There's elements of it that still need some tweaking but it's starting to shape up.

I like the sizes- my first impression on the second render, beginning of the thread, was the neck was too thick. It looked okay in the first render but the second one did show it a big wide. The head seemed fine to me. I like the size of both the head and neck now- and the textures are awesome. That dash of red pattern on the head is just enough- it's not distracting and the eye features and expressions are easily seen. Beautifully done!

Yeah the second one the thickness of the neck and size of the head made him look top heavy to me. As to the face texture, this is the angle it looks best from, I only have some minor issues with the appearance around the lower jaw, but I should be able to fix them. And everything's saved as layers so it should be fairly easy to use the same pattern in different colors. Thanks!

Is it actually possible to change the texture of the Fire Drake's back spines witjout having to go directly to the texture folders or is there something I missed? When I selected the fire drake, there were no options to change the colors of it's attachments.
