Googling through old threads on the subject of duplicate formulas, I discovered that I somehow installed Rin through Smart Connect (even though I use DIM exclusively). Smart Connect files won't appear when searching the Daz folder, so no wonder I never found them.

Anyways, just leaving this here for those who might be at wit's end about duplicate formula issues and have tried everything else.

I've had a support ticket in for this for a couple weeks now with no response. Where do I go to find these Smart Connect files?

In DS, just click on the Smart Connect tab and then right-click on Rin and choose 'Uninstall'. If it doesn't show as installed for you, then you may want to double-check that the morphs are not still installed in the 'data' folder.

  • I checked and my smart content folder is empty. I think I'm just going to uninstall Rin for now and wait a few months for support to get back to me cheeky

  • Looks like I'm having this same issue with Rin, but I don't have Naoko so it's clashing with some other product. I only install through Connect so I know I didn't through both Connect and DIM.

There might a solution to keep the conflicting product installed, it worked for me on anohter dupe formula error:
see the log file to identify the dupe morph, browse for it in the parameters tab, click the cog wheel to edit  parameters and change one of thje "255" color values to "254", save changed asset. You wiull now have to identically labelled morphs with slightly different values. If they avtually DO the same, you can also delete just the referign morph.

I'm glad you have it sorted out. Duplicate formula errors are absolutely maddening, especially when they're hard to track down because they're through Connect, the result of a morph transfer (happened to me yesterday), etc. With multiple libraries they can be incredibly pervasive, too.

Have you ever logged in inside of Studio to do something like tell it to update metadata? If you have, there's a good chance that Connect hijacked a bunch of your content, including the Rin character. I was told by TS to do this once for a small fix that hadn't pushed to DIM. I only use DIM for installations of DAZ products and always have done, but when I did as asked around 150 DIM-installed products were immediately taken over by Connect, marked as installed and maintained by Connect, had Connect files installed to my hard drive, and defaulted to whatever Connect says does or doesn't exist. These included things like every single Genesis Essentials set. The person I was talking to seemed surprised because evidently that's not supposed to happen, but I produced a ton of screenshots of these products with sudden Connect logos on them and evidently the information has been passed along. It also broke a whole bunch of previously functioning thumbnails.

The only way to get them back as they were has been to uninstall through DIM, uninstall again through Connect inside of Studio, shut Studio down, delete all of Connect's files (after the product has been deleted and while Studio is closed or it'll start throwing errors about not being able to find things), reinstall everything through DIM, and then start Studio up again. It's time-consuming, every hijacked product has to be dealt with individually, and I still haven't managed to get it all sorted out yet. It's what I'd recommend if you're still having trouble, as a start. Uninstall in DIM, make sure the Connect instance is uninstalled inside of Studio, close, purge all Connect-related files, and then reinstall through DIM.

Never, EVER allow anyone to tell you that you have to log in to fix a problem, is the lesson I learned. Wait for the fix to be pushed through DIM days or weeks later.

Connect won't download content without instruction. What do you mean by a Connect logo? Connect doesn't put a logo on thumbnails for fully installed content - not having the item installed through Connect does add a logo, a down-pointing triangle in a broken circle at top-right; if an items is isntalled through Connect and has an update then it will have a U-turn arrow in a circle.

The Connect metadata will, I think, be used in preference to DIM's so bad product thumbnails (but not file thumbnails) certainly could result from allowing DS to go on-line

Agreed and confirmed, Connect does not download any content unless explicitely request by the user. Regarding metadata, I have my Studio version always online, i see an "update metadata" in the log occasionally, but messy metadata is not updated. I cannot judge if it has not been corrected yet, or it just does not update, though. I am still hoping on product updates via DIM. While there are regular updates for fixing basic product issues, I have not received any update that corrects incorrect metadata since November. In fact, I am now getting ticket replys asking if the issue persists. Of course it does, it is not going away magically.

I wish I could tell you, Richard, I really do, because that would mean that I could understand it and hopefully fix it more easily.

But I can't, and thus far no one else has been able to, either. I've had an open ticket with tech support about it since December, which is when I followed through on their instructions to fix another lingering problem and it happened. They asked for screenshots, I provided them, and they acknowledged that something had gone screwy but couldn't determine what it was. The last I heard anything, it had been kicked on down the line to see if someone could figure it out and find a fix for it. Silence since then.

My Genesis 8 Starter Essentials package was installed through DIM, ONLY EVER THROUGH DIM and never ever EVER through Connect, and it's got that stupid "U-turn arrow in a circle" BS slapped on it all the same. Again: I did not install that through Connect. I have never installed a single piece of content through Connect. Connect just decided to hijack a seemingly random selection of products, including ones that had literally been released by DAZ, downloaded by me, and installed through DIM ONLY that very day. Other items that I likewise never installed through Connect ended up with the broken-circle-and-arrow icon... and the ability to uninstall them in Studio, which is not available when I right-click on products installed through DIM that didn't get screwed up.

Hopefully tech support will get back to me sometime in the next couple of years because it is not at all fun to keep tripping over crap that says it doesn't exist because Connect decided to take over. Again, they were able to confirm that things had gone horribly wrong, but couldn't explain how or why. Something may not be supposed to happen but that doesn't mean that it didn't, or can't.

Except for when it very much does, or at least decides that it has and hijacks things -- see my comment right above this one.

I never install content with anything apart from DIM and Content Wizard. Tech support can't explain what went wrong, but they did verify that it had happened based on screenshots that I sent them. No idea when I'm going to hear anything on it, if they ever do figure it out (I expect the ticket has been orphaned).

That is interesting. I did not know, that such fix existed. Anybody else has success with such approach?

I used this trick for a "lacey dress foot pose" that somehow managed to clash with every scene I created or opened from that point on, regardless of what was in the scene.

The trick worked for a time, but after a while, it recurred and I just uninsalled the "Lacey Dress" product.

I got the same error with G8 and G8.1 after installing a character called Diane.

However, it seems that the characters load perfectly fine and the renders are OK.

My question would be. Does this error affect anything at all?

Logically thinking the "trick" should not work at all as it is not changing the code that's causing the problem.

Depends on what's linked, but it might for example make your nose extend to a carrot if you blinked your left eyelid

  • My log file reports no duplicates but I still get the duplicate message every single time.

I'm having the same issue with 2 loads of the geoshells from DA Moss (great little flourishes to the scene, BTW) and, like rafed_alwani, as far as I can see it all loads and renders fine, other than the start up message and click-box.

That said, per Noah LGP's advice - how does one change the scene ID from within D|S? For me scene-tab/hamburger/edit/scene identification field Scene ID is not editable. The node labels are different.

    Cheers, Lx

  • Unfortunately, I have decided not to buy any more products from VOOTW because this happens to me all the time and updates that fix the problem take a very, very long time to arrive. Example: Vo Fay HD for Genesis 9 and also Vo Kitsis HD for Genesis 9
