I'm officially in love with this set. :-D
Thanks for the hard work, Dogz. This set is really amazing, and renders very well. The functional doors are definitely a plus!
Here's a quick test render I threw together.
Hello Dogz,
I've licensed and used your M1 and Steel Frames - like them both. I'd buy your Railway sets and Shattered in a minute if they only had Poser versions. I'd convert myself, but it takes way too much time and sometimes I don't get the results I'm seeking on complex and expensive sets. I saw your note at the beginning of the thread regarding Studio only and that you'd do Poser if you only you could. Are Shattered and Railway in Poser never in the cards? What is blocking that?
Thanks,
jim
Sadly whats blocking it is that I need to buy a modern version of Poser, I did conversions in the past on the cheap by using using a copy of 2012 I borrowed from an illustrator mate of mine, I (Had it for about a year) now hes moved to Australia and taken his Poser 2012 with him, so I've had to uninstall.. So until I get round to buying a copy I'm stuck. I could maybe get another PA to convert for me but how would we fairly split the earnings?
What stopping me from buying Poser is that its a relatively expensive program that Id only use for development and testing and probably not for much else :(
Thank you for your kind words and render -It means alot :)
It's content like this that makes me wish I wasn't a pensioner at times.. So much good content, so little money..
Great stuff!
Thanks for your reply.I took the plunge. I'll translate them myself. Your models and textures are too compelling to let brand, language and culture barriers get in the way ;-)
jim
I know a Poser user who would really love your stuff too.
he was grumbling as I was looking and my suggestion to install DS4.6 and export obj files did not go down too well
you can get older versions cheap Poser 8 Debut even if any help
Oddly that is exactly what I did,
(I just bought the station and surrounds)
export obj files for my use in iClone, had to re-save some alpha maps as the png format used did not work but otherwise works quite well in iclone.
all parts subpropable
My friend says his PC hates DAz studio so still grumbling and not buying
maybe include obj files for the grumpy DS avoiders
Well I found a British steam engine. Its a GWR and not a Southern but it will do for now.
Just steaming up ready for the first visitors.
Great render Wendy! Thanks for posting.
God's Wonderful Railway. I used to play around with MSTS, and I must say, I still enjoy it immensely.
Looks like the one from Dark Anvil at Poser direct. (MrSparky's site)
Yes choholes right. I had to enlarge it slightly to get it to sit on the rails properly.
Ah MSTS - used to create a lot of content for that.. mostly CPR stuff, but also as a member of the NALW... Was great fun..
Actually, what would be really cool for the tracks would be a wooden texture for the sleepers, if you want to do "early" renders.
Here, you have, from left to right, steel, wod (center) and concrete material.

Also, for the train's seats, a "used/worn" version would be cool, too.
Maybe that's an idea for an add-on pack for this set.
i grabbed that same engine yesterday
I like Dogz trains too and will also quite likely buy another time but more for the 60's - 80's in style of train we had here in Australia but as said not as swish inside.
I wanted something more fitting period costume too with this set
Ok did an iClone video with the scene using PoserDirect steam train,DAZ toy coal car and JT's Passenger car
I found there is a MSTS route for South Australia but sadly cannot by copyright use the images of it or would buy MSTS on steam just to capture footage to use in vids
I do love the look of your trains too Dogz and am getting close to buying them too.
my bank account is shedding tears at this poit
I wish it were that straightforward for Poser users. There are 17 files that you need to export from DAZ to Obj format to honor all of the Railway scenes. To convert the product, these each need to be loaded in Poser. On import, Poser prompts for the material – There are something over 45 material files that have to be manually linked – if you happen to mis-link – start again. To get all of the scenes, this must be done for each material by each of the 17 scene files. Once you have linked correctly, you’ll have a model with base textures, but because you were not prompted for the alpha on the billboard materials, the billboard elements (and any other element that needs more than an image map for the diffuse will cause the scene to look wrong until you manually open in the materials room every billboard type, create a new image map node for the alpha for opacity, and bind it to the base material. To get it to really look right, you may need to change diffuse, spec, refl for each. Yet when all done (this is many hours of work for the full set) you have one massive obj for each of the set’s scenes with no access to the scene elements within the obj that you would normally have (no ability to hide a wall or open a door – I’m not talking just no morphs, I’m talking no control of the elementary geometry) - no subprop as mentioned in iclone in the quoted reference. To get that level of detail, I find that I’d have to export from DAZ individual components of the scene that I might someday want control over (wall/door) or in a more workman like pipeline, I’d take the obj from DAZ first into a 3D geometry creation/manipulation program like Blender/Max/etc.,. that would retain the element names and since the materials would be right in that program then output the individual objects that I might want control over in Poser. And this is all a bit of trial and error for each vendors files - yeah, my 3D program couldn't find the alphas because they were in png and I had to open in PS and resave as jpg - but you don't know that is the problem until you inspect the directory to see what is different about those files. Please, if someone sees something I’m doing that makes this harder than it needs to be (I dream that I'm just not setting export correctly), let me know how to simplify, but I didn’t want for our dialogue on this to mislead someone into thinking that translation done by the buyer is simple or effective. It is for all of this that I have a rule not to buy a model that does not include a Poser Core Installer – but I violated my rule because Railway is a great model set - a great piece of art. If you have not done this type of .duf to .pz3 conversion before, recommend you start with something simple like pieces of fruit.
Thanks,
jim
you know you are damned right about that
obj import into Poser that is
I tried this one out the box, it is a dogZ breakfast indeed
indeed opacity maps and tiling of bricks need fixing
scale is way off and as parts load in 0,0,0,positions
so glad I use Carrara and iClone more than Poser as while the map and tiling issue occurs those are fixable
nonetheless I do think DogZ should grab a cheap copy of Poser Debut which is sometimes free even
because of this
and it would profitably pay off in increased customer base
I caved and bought both your trains BTW DogZ mate
Is that the Thumper carriage that it's pulling? I did notice there was a green texture set in the promos.
too much work for me in carrara too
but I got it for iClone so not a problem
I would highly recommend this set to iClone users but make sure you have plenty of RAM, a good GPU and reduce map sizes
also import into 3Dxchange in bits
the trains you will need to do doors separately hiding parts in DS and exporting, wheels and bogies subpropable in 3DX5
station doors can be subproped in 3Dx5
and tile the station brickwork 4x
Is that the Thumper carriage that it's pulling? I did notice there was a green texture set in the promos.
Yes, it seemed to fit in nicely with GWR engine.
