Best practices? using genesis and genesis 2 content in Carrara

If you have just installed Carrara 8.5 for the first time, as 3DAge points out above, make sure that the "Postgres" database services are running if you wish to use Genesis or Genesis 2 figures.  Otherwise, Carrara will not find the morph packs that you have for those figures.  I believe this only has to be done once.

 

I had thought that the "Postgres" database started when Carrara did. Perhaps I'll have to check for morphs.

you're right, the Postgrs database should start when Carrara is launced,. but on a new install where there's an issue with content not showing or working correctly,. then that's the most likely issue,.

If the Postgres DB doesnt start start daz studio or DIM then start Carrara then shut down the other program.

This works well as the other programs seem to have no issue starting the DB.

Thanks Andy and chickenman.  I'm not having a problem just wanted to make sure.  It is good to know that DIM can be run at the same time as Carrara. I usually make it a habit not to run DIM and DS or Carrara since I've heard that it's not good to do an install of content with DS or Carrara running.... better safe than sorry.

Now, I use Genesis 2 or my own toon figures 90% of the time.  Sometimes, I will use Misty’s characters for the G3/G8 series or M4/V4, but much less often.

 

Does anyone use the Poser figures like Don/James/Simon/Tyler or Jessi/Sydney/Miki?  I will occasionally convert a Simon historical uniform to M4 and from there to Genesis, but it seems like I never just render P7 Simon or Sydney anymore.

i have a favorite p7 simon character called Nash by Jepe at rendo.  

 

side note, found M4 elite carrara shaders in my prodlib
these are pre 8.5, might not be the best nowadays

I think M4 elite 'sol' has a carrara shader set as well (in addition to most/all? of the female elite series characters).

It looks like we have two M4/V4 Carrara shader options available - those mentioned above, and some that come included with the Elite products. I had to (re)check, but was able to verify that the M4 elite characters I've got all have separate Carrara shaders as standalone items that came with the Elite products (I  never bought Carrara shaders back then...) The M4 Jeremy elite product page mentions the 'Elite' family of textures working across 'Carrara, Daz Studio, and Poser', but there are no other mentions or references to the Carrara shaders, other than the product items/pages in my product library. It looks like 'DP' (digital painter) did the Elite series.

Has anyone ever tried both sets (the included 'elite' versions, vs. the @Bunyip02 mentioned GKDantes versions) to compare results?

Per the DAZ store pages, it looks like the V4 Elite Females have the same DAZ-produced Carrara shaders included as well, but they are packaged differently than the M4 Elites.
