Strand Based hair will not update after edit

HI,

Im attempting to make some strand based fur.  The problem im having is that when I go to edit it so I can shorten the lenght of fur, it appears not to update it on my figure after I have accepted it.  Have no idea what im doing wrong.

ok all sorted.  I was editing the length of the hairs in the wrong place. duh!
