Wierd Custom texture issue when in NIVIDIA Iray mode

Hey guys, to make this quick to read, im making a custom texture, but it looks weird on Render mode, but in Texture shaded it looks fine.

Here https://imgur.com/a/9RfjXn7

In the Iray mode, the teal texture looks choppy and pixelated on the edges, but both in Shaded mode and the jpg the image looks normal.

Is there any way to fix this? i have done a ton of custom textures for the G8 and this is the first time i've seen this issue...

So i legit don't know how to fix it.

  • Hi there!
Are you using a 4096x4096 resolution for your texture map? I've gotten this before when using a lower resolution map size.

Hi Elli, thanks for the reply, i did, since i grabed the original G8 textures to paint on top of them.

  • It may be you need to bump up the resolution some more and then shrink it back down when you are done. Also check the compression settings on the image as well that can also cause the pixelation.

  • Well, from what i have tried i found out something that i don't understand, for some reason some colors have this weird issue, i went back to my texture and i change the Teal to Yellow, same issue but then when i chage it to red, the issue was gone, but now the line in the texture had the same issue, it wasn't until i made the lines dark red that now it worked, i play with it for some time and for some reason bright color look pixelated but dark or pastel colors look normal, i don't know what's the issue all about but i guess ill have to change it to red then, shame, i love teal...

    OH! I just remembered something!!
Open your render settings pane and go into the advanced tab. Check the Texture Compression Settings at the top they are set to 512x1024 by default and can cause the issue as well! Try bumping up the 1024 up to 4096 or 8192 depending on the largest texture size  you use.

Another thing to try would be a Diffuse Overlay texture. This is a white PNG that overlays onto the base texture via the Diffuse Overlay Weight channel in the Surfaces Tab. I've done a quick image tutorial for you on how to do this. One of the advantages of the Diffuse Overlay option is you can make your texture any color you want via the Diffuse Overlay Color channel so you can get your teal that you want. I did a pink/purple for the image as it matched the top lol
