Very cool Filatoon renders! Love it!
Thanks 3Diva! This product is amazing! I love it to pieces. I can't help but want to play with it. I hope there are more products available in this style! Its wonderful! Thanks for helping to make it possible! =-)
Sadly I didn't have anything to do with FilaToon's release or development. However, I'm working on a product for it that I'm pretty excited about.
I'm loving seeing everyone's work with the FilaToon shaders though! It's crazy how much I'm enjoying all the NPR renders! I've always been a huge fan of NPR looks and seeing everyone working with these styles has really made my month! It's revitalized my visits to the forum too. hahah Making me excited to see the new renders!
I like the style too. I hope to see more options for this style in the future and look forward to seeing your product!
More Owen and Boyd's adventures in filatoon continue.
I tested some of the anime expressions on the boys, and yes, they work! Don't dial them in at maximum or they look scary.
Just FYI, I just copied Owen and Boyd's shapes to the Anime toon character so I can use the eyes and other features. It worked pretty well. I do occasionally need to reset the eyes.
Looks very good!
I like it better in Filatoon. The characters stand out more.
Boyd's got some more Boyd-like eyes and eyebrows thanks to Mikey's genetics. I tried the skin, but Mikey has some pretty heavy eyebags... I see a way to add those but not to remove them. It looks a bit strange on non-anime characters.
Boyd can change the color and appearence of his eyes. But they are naturally a silver machine color since his eyes are basically camera lenses. He usually keeps them that way.
Mikey's skin has some nice details. Here it is on Torment 8.1's body
Very inspiring examples of Filatoon with Owen and Boyd!
Lee
Elves also look great with this rendering style.
Thanks Lee! I like to play with toons now and then, and I've always liked the look of flat cell animation. I just hope there are some more mature guy genetic options available soon!
So, I found if you take a toon-style HDR, like these toon ones I bought on Renderhub, and plug them in to the environmental maps, you can change the render mode to viewport and use them quite well. Its obviously not as good as Iray, but I suspect something like this could be easily developed to work for toons.
Owen with his Bike
Not to litter your thread but I did want to recommend Phoenix1966's Phx Henry who seems vaguely familiar but comes with elf ears so technically an elf:
Henry turned out amazing and I Really like his hairstyle! good job with him.
Now this is a reason to enjoy autumn! Yum.
I'm also jealous how you've managed to make the boys look so good as toons. I haven't embraced the shader yet, so my fumbling attempts are laughable.
@nemesis10, he looks great there! I love his expression. It makes him so personable. As an aside, Henry wasn't inspired by anyone in particular, but I can't speak for my subconscious.
May i ask what you used with Henry in your promotions?
You sure can, @nemesis10. You can PM me if you'd like, so we don't clutter up Serene's thread.
Thanks, I will do that!
After interruptingh uyour thread, may I ask if Owen and Boyd are fully Genesis 9 characters now?
I probably will reserve the right to skip between generations. I do really like genesis 9, but there are some things I can't stand and struggle wtih still. Also there is just far less content for Genesis 9 men.
That said, I still am working a bit on Boyd, but Owen is as close as I'm probably going to get.
Boyd is wearing the new Zk Sci-fi Skull outfit.
Here are more elves. I have trouble with filatoon simply because I can't get two hairs or two styles of hair to match. Even with reshading older hairs it just looks off. So the other elf has no hair, until I can find him some comparatively nice hair.
I think I read somewhere in the forum that Filament has real issues with transparency maps, that they just don't work correctly. That may be part of the issue with older hairs, at least.
Thanks! It certainly does, but its also got to do with how the hair looks when the shader is applied. Some of it looks like a helmet, others it is far too segmenty.
Even the hairs for sale for the toons- there are some that are super shaded with different colors and thick lines, and others are just an outline. Stylwise I can't seem to get two mens hairs that look good.
So, a couple of things I have learned. Cycloramas are you friends in Filament... Use them! why bog your render down with more stuff you won't use. Hopefully, some enterprising pa will make some decent ones for the toons.
The other thing is that if you have Topaz Labs, the 'basic correction' option adds some interesting depth to the toons.
