Domino coat V4 on Genesis2 (now going from G2 to G8)

I'm having trouble posing the tails on this coat, maybe I'm fitting it wrong.
When I try to put the coat on the Gen2F the tails of the coat get linked to the model's legs so when I try to pose them, they bend, twist and warp in all crazy directions.

I've tried fitting just as a shirt, but it still links the legs. I've also tried to re-parent each section of the coat tails to the section above it hoping that would unlink them from the legs but that hasn't worked either.

Of course the coat works fine on a V4 model that it was made for but unfortunately the morphs and other items I can only do with the Gen2F :(

Is there a way to break the link with the legs?

If you used Autofit, it picks up G2F's morphs as well I think.

After autofitting, select the coat and in the Parameters pane, select 'Fit To ' none, and then parent the coat in the Scene pane to G2F Hip. You should then be able to move the coat tails separately

Well, I was definitely able to pose the tails separately. Unfortunately the top of the coat stopped moving with the figure as well (the arms and chest)

I'm thinking I might have to use 2 coats in the scene, 1 parented to the figure with the tails hidden, and a 2nd parented to the first coat with everything but the tails hidden :(

I'm definitely hoping for a 1 coat solution though.

Are you using 'Change Parent' from the right click menu in the viewport?

I can't get this to work now myself, but it did work yesterday. I don't know what is going on, but when I parent it now, it doesn't stay with the figure like it did yesterday. I will keep trying, to see if there is any way of doing this.

I tried right click and drag-drop but it would only be "glued" at the waste. Also, unfitting the coat caused a lot of poke-through in the arms and shoulders :(

Read through Sickleyields tutorial for using items with ghost bones (which the domino coat has).

    http://sickleyield.deviantart.com/journal/Tutorial-Saving-Gen-4-Custom-Bones-on-Conversion-417250347

I used Clone V4 and no projection template..

When you get to the saving portion, it's File > Save As > Support Asset > Figure/Prop Asset. I saved it to G2F's clothing directory in a sub-folder named Conv_LM Domino V4.

[Pose is from InfinityRain's Xtech poses here in the store]

    I think I did something wrong :(
I attempted to follow the instructions but I have my figure loaded and selected, then I go into my content library and load the new coat but it doesn't parent to the figure. If I try to fit to character it reverts back to linking the legs to the coat tails and if I just try to parent to target then it doesn't move with the character. :(

I'll have to go through the tut again. I just load the coat, then the figure but don't apply the coat to the figure, correct? (just leave them as separate objects in the scene)

    *edit*
Nevermind it worked the 2nd time!! :) I think I got the source and target backwards when doing the transfer utility the first time.

Thank you so much! Now I think I have a bunch of other earlier gen items to go convert :)

Correct- load the figure, then the coat. Don't fit-to or parent.

Reviving this thread to see if there is a way to get something like this to work going from G2 to G8. I tried this method but it didn't seem to work I think because a lot of the bones have been renamed.
