CONTENT - Documentation

McGrandpaMcGrandpa Posts: 464

I use Poser Pro 2014. I have DSON and it functions fine. I do have a problem now when installing any content from DAZ. It appears there is no longer any documentation included, and I see no apparent means of finding it anywhere. No I don't use Studio though I have it installed. I checked in it too and see no apparent means of viewing or finding DAZ Content documentation. I do NOT use "CMS" nor will I.
When DAZ went to using ZIP files for distributing their content, there were HTML files. These were usable by all of us from the desktop. So when is DAZ going to implement a method of distributing content documentation usable by everyone?
Thank you.
McG.

If you use DIM, click on 'i' (information) in a circle next to the product; otherwise, look up the SKU here: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/start

    Thanks again fixmypcmike!

DAZ have created a serious concern for any older users. Older than the DIM that is. This isn't going to be a permanent problem, I hope? There are just way too many people that, like me, have many years worth of hundreds of gigs of DAZ content installed already. Which essentially seems to make the DIM useless.

I have begun using DIM - but only to download, not to install (because of having thousands of products installed by hand and not using any Smart Content Thingie - I am smarter! LOL)
Even for older content downloading again is useful - because DIM will tell you about updated files, but only if you downloaded with DIM.
And the DIM zips are smaller than the old .exe installers.

When you open DIM and go to the Readme - there is a small "pdf" button in the upper right corner. With that you can download the up-to-date Readme and Filellist as one pdf.

Hm. So DIM can be used that way huh. It tells me at this moment I have 2,898 items ready to download. OH NO! That is almost double the number of items from two years ago, just two years ago! How did I even DO that?! Right (eh HEM!) so DIM is running, it is one of the very few shortcut icons on my desktop so it is easy to get to. OH I see it shows the total file count for all the items, not simply the items. Whew! That had me thinking I was sicker than I thought I was! The hover flyout shows quite a bit of info for the product. As fixmypcmike said, the circle i gets the documentation for the item open. Yep I see the .pdf icon. If I had a faster connection than DSL (less than 1 megabyte per sec) I would use this tool and just download everything all over again to a new 1 TB USB drive. DL'ing larger files can be almost painful. Right so now I have 5 installed, 2 ready to install and 2896 ready to download. Some items don't have docs yet, some say WIP and no file list, and so on. We used to get the documentation IN every item. There was nothing wrong with that scheme, IMO.
    Quick review:
The DIM does give the SKU docs via the info button per file. fixmypcmike's SKU lookup shows the same thing, but allows for stuff not installed or downloaded by the DIM. Otherwise, all older methods of documentation are now lost.

Thanks for your help Kerya and you too fixmypcmike!
