I have had my biggest problem with my systems just not up to the higher demands of the new products. Some sets I have had to just avoid now after a series of crashes or locked up systems when just loaded. I saw the reports of the black screens and problems with dForce after that driver update a couple back, so I avoided updating my Nvidia Studio drivers, until a new Game Ready Driver was sent to my flatmate's computer. Then when I got a new Studio Driver I updated after that.

But some of my lights are only good for prior to 4.20 and I am not sure until I try using a set. Even environment's lights can give me issues. I really need to note that field that needs to be updated on a postette.

This was in my Axios Denver newsletter this morning. In an article about a doctor (Jason Persoff/Stormdoctor.com) who takes photos of snowflakes was a link to the photos, which he sells. They are amazing and intricate. I thought you all might enjoy them just for their beauty.

Edit to add his name, website.

The Yeti totally fits in the Winterland.

Did you find any differences in using it in 2022 from when you last used it in 2016, with all the updates to DAZ Studio?

I worked on it in Studio 4.21.1.13 Public Build fixing the snow, lighting and cameras doing lots of renders to get it right. I added the Yeti, set the camera and redid some lighting and when I tried a render it was just a black image. I have had this quite often with the 4.20/21 Public Builds but it sometimes comes right if I start moving and tweaking things, this was one of the times that no matter what I did it would only render a black image. I saved the file and fired up Studio 4.15.0.30 loaded it and it rendered fine. I don't know what it is that causes the black render in Studio 4.21 but I am just glad I keep 4.15 as a backup :)

I get the black renders when it drops to CPU because i have it set to not use the CPU.

It isn't dropping to CPU it is using the graphics card with plenty of memory to spare.

A question I received had me looking at VYK Zuri for G8F again this morning. If she was usable without the required HD Body Shapes for G8F. When I went to look up my copy of the HD Body Shapes in my computers, I found it installed through DIM in one, and totally missing in DIM in the other, and when I looked it up in my Product Library, the name was there, the promo image showed in the gallery, but it would not click open. Weird.

With two Win 10 computers and D|S 4.21.1.13 I loaded up Zuri on each, put her in bikinis, hair, same pose (to show off her muscles), PRO Studio HDR Light 01R. I then dialed out the HD Body Shapes that were loaded onto both Zuris, even the one on the computer without it loaded per DIM. I didn't make a render of her at that point, but dialed in the Body Diversity Morphs for G8F by Dogz that the person had and thought might be usable. I used BD Boney HD Details, BD Figure Skinny, and BD Face Weight Gaunt at 100% (she is wearing the orange bikini). The base Zuri is wearing a bluish/turquiose bikini.

Looking at them, I think some muscular morphs for the thighs would be helpful.

(Hate it when you see at the last minute they are floating!)

    Hey guys!
@darwinsmishap is having a fundraiser for a senior dog group over on Facebook for his birthday. If you go to my facebook page (pnscola) or his (mined.destruction) you'll see the post. Senior dogs are the best, and of course most likely to be overlooked, animals at rescue groups.

Thank you for the shoutout, Novia!

Here in southern UK it has been 13°C (that's about 55°F) this afternoon and tonight is expected to be no colder than 8°C (about 46° F) - both of which ae above the seasonal average. I think we may have swapped our weather!

It was cold for several days last week, though - bad enough to freeze and burst lots of water mains, we had no water at all on Monday morning and it's been lower pressure than normal since.

  • It is still on the way here on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. From almost 60°F earlier in the day it is expected to be only 15°F by 7am tomorrow. That is way colder than it has been in many years.

Here in North Central Texas 15°F Real Feel is the same.

It was -5F in southcentral Kentucky / northcentral Tennessee. That's colder than normal for the beginning of winter. Snow and ice is more frequent the last 8.5 years too.

However, I think these bursts of extreme cold air and snow/ice will incease from the artic as polar ice cap melts increase. Over the past 8.5 years that I've lived in this house we have had also two different years that the low temperatures for the winter were -24F as lows, but those were in the 1st half of February. That is extremely unusual and it was so infrequent that it cracked the main gable at the top of my mom's house and repair men had to be hired to repair it. I also remember a lady's 10' tall and 10' wide fall blooming zone 6 hardy camelia that would cover with white flowers was killed and that plant took decades to get that large. That was awful. LOL, as all my attempts to order cameilas for this weather zone and plant in my yard have failed with some sort of plant disease, I was intending to ask her if I could take a few clipping of her camelia as hers was very healthy and very big before the -24F cold killed it, but I didn't get around to it in time.

Before that for this area I have to think all the way back to 1983 and 1989 for -10F temperatures in Kentucky. Back then I smoked, and because I had to go outside to smoke, it left me with an icicicle mustache and beard.

22 Dec, woke to -17F, real feel -37F and snow. Flatmate off that day. Cleared off snow & made sure engine ran when warmed up to 1 F at 3pm.

23 Dec, woke to -4F, real feel -17F, warmed up to 7F. Drove Flatmate to work at 0530 am.

24 Dec, woke to 4F, real feel 4F. Drove flatmate to work at 0530 am. Now at 47F, real feel 45F. Made an Apple Pie for tomorrow. Finally watched 'Kingdom of Heaven' on Prime Video while I made the pie. Feel like I am coming down with a bad cold. Slush is all over the parking lots.

Wouldn't you know I bought the Millenium Horse for the old sleigh and here came the new sleigh and Daz Horse 3. Now, we need saddles for the new horse for all eras and uses!

I hope everyone is safe, with loved ones, and will enjoy their holiday in peace.

Here in the Rio Grande Valley I'm at 54 degrees today which is much better than the 20s and 30s of the last few days

    Happy Holiday everyone

Happy Holidays from Pensacola, it was a balmy 43 degrees today LOL. It's 33 right now at 7:40pm. Low will be NINETEEN. Geez.
I mean, it is seriously funny when it is barely over 40 degrees in the afternoon and it felt like a heat wave. Wait for it- look at these daily temps, starting with today/Christmas:
    46 / 19
50 / 33  (YES! The low is finally higher than what the high has been)
    59 / 43  then  we are in the 70's with lows of 55, 58, and 65 !!!!

    75 / 58  WE WILL HIT 75 DEGREES Dec 31st
72 / 63  for New Years- the low will be 63 degrees in January.

Gotta love whacky weather.  Do you guys warm up after this front is gone? What's your New Year's Eve look like? (Go to Accuweather.com and select daily)

LOL that sounds like something I would do. I picked it up because it was a really good deal. I'm still a holdout against Genesis 9 though (and saving a ton of money.)

So what has everyone been buying with all the good deals? I've picked up a few characters from Addy.
    Addy Leigh
    Addy Daphne
    Addy Stella

also CB Ryilee  as I liked the freckles.

Addy Leigh (G8F)      Alien Sentinel Outfit (G8F)      dF Yunbae Hair G8/G81

The alien Sentinel Outfit is greatly discounted, and you can kitbash to get a good fantasy headpiece or the outfit, or the weapon. Not sure when it will go offsale, so I am posting this render before it is done. It's at about 70 percent.  I personally don't like swirlies on the breasts but depending on the angle of the render, it can be worked around. (Or the lighting can diminish them so they're more subtle.)

I really like the Yunbae Hair, first time I've used it. If you've got a redhead complexion or brows, it has a lot of nice "orange" colors.
One thing I do not like about Addy characters is the lack of ability to do mouths and makeups separately, and the thumbnails aren't good so far as seeing what the options are. They are, however, nicely labeled. (I hate "makeup 1" type labels. They shouldn't be allowed!

@Novica, I didn't buy Leigh but I caved on her jewerly. I tried it on a G9 and a ring loaded off the body and I had the joy of moving it onto the finger I wanted the it on. And this is with bad eyes and this week I should be getting my new glasses. But after about an hour, I finally had it on the finger, shaded/material applied, and then after the render it was barely visible!

The one thing I would love to know is how to get the Bobby Pins in the hair. Do you just lay them or position them? Or do the snap into place somehow?

I think I have maybe three sets by that team and I love them but use them rarely. Don't render the style of art that would be appropriate for them and I forget about them also. But my, they are gorgeous.

Leigh is lovely, but I am not buying G8 anymore. I have well over 2000 characters, and have at least half of them uninstalled now. I am not even buying every G9 that comes out. I will buy enough of them to collect good skins, so I can use the base to create from the base figure.

Have you seen what folks are doing in the Commons-Head Games? There is some very creative work with just the G9 base and products from the G9 Essentials. And it is not hard to use clothing from other generations on G9 with autofit.

I see you are still in cold temperatured for Florida, like the 20s today, so I hope your critters you care for and the plants are doing okay? And you as well.

My bug turned into a full, cold/flu mess over the holiday, better now. I hope.

Hmm, I've never messed with bobby pins. The hair items I have used have them pretty much "in" the hair with only shaders to change them. I don't know if you select them in Scene if they could be moved or not, but that would be my only way to approach it if the vendor didn't provide the options. That is a nice set of jewelry, I have so much with the Arryn and Onnel (hope I spelled those right, I am too lazy to go look it up)  dresses that I don't need anymore jewelry. They really do a great job giving us our money's worth when we buy the dresses and all those accessories! (rings, bracelets, necklaces.)
The crud is really going around, the barn owner has it bad too. I am avoiding people as much as possible. Mom's retirement home had 8 Covid cases, now down to 5. And all the poor kids getting that respiratory illness is just so sad! Anyway, hope you feel better soon and maybe someone else can answer the bobby pin question for you.

     Addy Leigh (G8F)           Claire Cocktail Dress(G8F)        Daiosa Hair (G3 / 8 / 8.1F)
A softer side of Leigh. Showing that wonderful jewelry I mentioned.
I opened her mouth to show you the teeth. I really like them, they are very realistic.

For the lips with moisture, as her lips are absolutely DRY even with the gloss option. Keep in mind in different lighting the lips will be more/less glossy. I used the Pro Studio

    In Surfaces:
    Lips: Color  231 / 193 /160  RGB
Translucency Color a pale yellow to get more orange to match her hair / complexion  255 / 243 / 175   (was white)
Dual Lobe Specular Weight    55 went to 68   What does this do? The dual lobe is confusing.
Specular Lobe 1 Roughness  pt .10 to .054  and it did get more glossy.
Glossy Layered Weight  0 to .10
Base Bump 4 to 6 (trying to get more lines)  Gloss is holding up well
    Glossy Reflectivity   .5 to .64
Metallic Flakes  0 to .022  Really makes a difference, as you know I am a huge fan of adding this to lips for moisture/gloss
Metallic Flakes Color-  never use white, use a light orange or pale yellow  254 / 247 / 191   pale yellow
Metallic Flakes Roughness  .41 down to .24
Metallic Flakes Density   .20 to .48
    Reflectivity .50 to .67

@daventaki   Well, hours later, I got it to load. Everyone- just scroll up a couple posts to see the jewelry and revised lips. I like the moisture without them being goo-ey. I really love her eyebrows, they are not the lawn-mowered bristled crap that many vendors had started doing. They are soft and natural.
