Need help! Should I buy Poser 10?
Hey there everyone!
So, at the moment Poser 10 is on sale for only 65$ and will be for 10 more days.
Poser has been on my software wishlist for a while now so I am very tempted to buy it while I can get it for such a good price but I have a few questions:
- First of all I am just curious, what happened to Poser 2012? Do they no longer make this version? Everywhere I go I see Poser 10 and Poser Pro 2014 only : )
- Now the most important thing, what is the difference between the two? I was looking and looking but all I found was that Poser 10 is suitable for regular users and Poser 2014 is the professional solution for content creators.
I am certainly no professional but I do create content in my free time (currently working on my second 3d product) and I would LOVE TO make the Poser version of the product for Victoria 4 maybe!
I bought her during the summer and I still didn´t get a chance to play with her as I decided not to make my first product for V4 as well since I currently only have Daz Studio but if I got Poser, I´d definitely make something for V4 : )
Which brings me to my next question:
Will the content I create for Poser 10 (in my case an outfit) work in Poser Pro 2014? Or even Poser 2012 if anybody actually has this version.
I am quite uncertain whether to get this or not but I probably will. This seems like a great chance to grab at least one version of Poser even if it´s not the latest and the greatest one : )
It will still be a bit cheaper if I decide to upgrade it to Poser Pro 2014 later.
But I´d love to hear what you guys think anyways!
Comments
I think you will find that Poser 10 is 32 bit, whereas the Pro version (ie Poser pro 2014) is 64 bit.
Poser 9 is the one that goes with Poser 2012 I think
I see. Does that mean that content for Poser 10 would not work properly in Poser Pro 2014? And are there any other (big) differences between the two?
Still makes me wonder why are these two versions the only ones they are selling right now.
There is a PDF which compares versions 9 and 2012 http://poser.smithmicro.com/ComparePoserSoftware.pdf
I am not certain why SM no longer offer 2012 or P9.
Oh really? Thanks a lot! I was just on their website and under compare pdf it said "coming soon". I´m gonna check it out! : )
Edit: This compare sheet does not seem to have the two current versions (10 and Pro 2014) in it though. But thank you anyways : )
yea sorry about that I amended my post
No, it means that PP2014 can handle more complex scenes and figures than P10. The content is universal, except that certain things (HD morphs via the DSON Importer) need the 64 bit version of Poser.
It's standard for companies to sell only the current version - having an older version as well would risk confusion, especially as it would be hard to set a price fro PP2012 between P10 and PP2014..
Poser 10 is the most current standard version of Poser. Smith Micro should drop the confusing version numbers and rename it Poser Standard 2014. The main difference between between Poser 10 and Poser Pro 2014 is the Pro version has a new fitting room and several other advanced tools and I think Poser 10 is only 32 bit while the Pro version can be 64 bit..... but not sure as I don't have Poser 10... just have Poser Pro 2014.
If you want to buy now... go with Poser 10 ... as that is a great price and Poser Pro 2014 is not on sale right now. I do think there will be a sale during the holidays if not sooner. I know it can be hard to justify paying for Poser esp. with DAZ Studio being free..... but if you look at your monthly spending on content vs. buying Poser......... which will you get the most use out of?.... I think it will look more affordable to you.
Here is a link to a review of the new versions of Poser from Geekbeat
Thanks guys! I think I now know what I needed to know and after asking a few more people, I think I´m going to buy it : )
