Fantastic idea! It looks like you are using the default headlamp as your primary lighting source. Changing the lighting could increase the impact. There are a lot of good free lighting tutorials available on Youtube ( https://www.google.com/search?q=daz+lighting+tutorial&safe=active&ssui=on). I don't. You are the third telling me that I must use HDRIs: I'm using them, but they give me awful results. I've found various free sets of Iray lights and I try one or another to find the better one for each scene. My computer is not powerful and I'm starting to have issues when I put too much elements on the scene, including lights. Sorry, I do the best I can.
Ah, got it! That makes sense. You actually don't need to use the HDRI / Iray renderer for good lighting results. I have run into the same problem before - the HDRI and Iray are a major drain (and a major pain in the rear) for slower computers, I have had renders go for 15 to 18 + hours in the past to get borderline clean results. The new Iray renderer now has a denoiser that sometimes helps so you can get decent renders at 1/10 the time... but even then that could mean a couple of hours of rendering for a slower computer.
Currently, are you using 3Delight renderer? If so, check to see if the shadows are "on" if you are using Biased rendering (ie not RayTrace). Here is an old tutorial about 3Delight light settings if you are not familiar with it: https://sharecg.com/v/84240/view/3/PDF-Tutorial/COF-Basic-Lighting-in-Daz-Studio-4. ; Ray tracing will give you more accurate shadows at the expense of slightly longer render times.
Also what is your lighting set up? Are you using a single distant light or a 3 point light set up, etc? If you haven't tried it, I would recommend trying out a 3 point lighting system (check out the Renderguide link above for the actual setup - the light setup works even if you don't use Iray) If you have have a really slow computer, you can actually render each light and merge all the images in a image editor like GIMP / Paintshop / Photoshop / etc. That is what I did with my last month's contest render. If you don't have one yet, before you go and spend a bunch of money , GIMP and Krita are absolutely free.

Are my pictures really so bad? I mean of course I'm rendering in Iray and I use Hdris and of course I know Gimp, Photoshop,etc. I can't buy Photoshop, I have no money, but I use a lot of programs to correct the pictures when they're wrong. Sometimes I add the spotlights in the scene, but not everytime, it depends of the amount of light. I'd just need better lights,but good lights are not free.

One of the things I loved about the Freebie contests in the past was it was more than just about collecting freebies, but learning from each other in a fun, low key competitive way and pushing each other to use those freebies to become better artists. This is a great way to hone skills just using the basics, without having to spend a ton of money to do it. With every render I have submitted, I do my best to try out some new technique or tool that I learned about or picked up from one of the other folks here... or some new fantastic freebie I just have to play with!

Nevermind, I figured out it was the book on the sofa... whew, I thought I was going blind. Lol!
I love that. We have experienced the same thing after our cat brought a live rat into the house, let go of it and then chased it round the ground floor of the house. He learnt we don't appreciate it after that event, and now brings his live prey in wrapped up in an Ivy Leaf to hide it from us. But it all goes wrong when he then miows at us to tell us what a clever cat he is...

Setting up all the clutter on the sand must have taken forever! I hate to say, I have seen too many beaches with all that litter in real life.

Thank you very much @Sky77 for your most kind words! Lot of postwork in the lighting effects as you can see in the raw renders. Yeah I sometimes get a little carried away too with the number of freebies that I used. ; ) Some items of the clutter were more difficult than the other. ; ) Sadly I must agree with you about the polluted state of the beaches and other parts of nature. Without the clutter the render would have looked weirdly empty, unreal. Well, that's exactly the way it is meant to be, watching the render while listening to the music. :D I am very glad you can appreciate and like it!
