How do I stop a rigged model's arm from attracting the torso when the arm moves?

I am rigging a model of a human skeleton in Carrara 8. To avoid confusion in discussing this, I shall refer to the elements of the model as "model bones" and the Carrara structural bones as "Carrara bones." The model bones are not welded. I have created an entire Carrara skeleton for the model, but if I attach all the Carrara bones to their corresponding model bones, the model arms attract and distort other parts of the model when they move. This is the model skeleton with its Carrara skeleton showing:

See how the arm attracts and deflects the scapula forward:

    Deflection of the torso/rib cage:

Deflection of the torso/rib cage on the left side, when rotating the left arm:

Weight paint those vertices out of the arm bones.

Good thing you haven't moved the feet yet! ;-) actually, as Ascania mentions, you'll need to use the weight painting tools to adjust the influence. To make it a bit easier (at least for the arms), it helps if the model that's being rigged is in a T-pose, with the arms extended out.

I'll try that. Or rather, I'll learn how to do that. Thanks.
