And here's my third entry: “Alien Marsh”.
Most of the plants were created for an old Rendo Bryce Challenge with newly created flowers and the mushroom. All modeled in Modo. The spheres are textured with  volumetric solids. Some funky Bryce trees make up the background. Illuminated by the sun and a custom “fake” HDRI. Rendered at Normal AA about five hours to render.

Dan - very beautifully done entry. I do like the flowers in front of the rocks under a starry sky.

Here is the final version of my first entry (probably the last, too ;-)

True Ambience, 144 rpp, render time nearly 2 days <sigh>

The title of this image is "Poppy Meadow".

    Dan : thank you.

Your two last renders are absolutely beautiful. Very cool idea as well, the Alien Marsh flowers are very well modeled.

Electro-Elvis : your last entry looks very good.

Electro-Elvis - well done, DOF looks very good to me. I very seldom render outdoors with TA, rather use a low dynamic range HDRI and sometime reduce shadow intensity for the HDRI (never for the sun). But then, DOF can also make a render long. Whatever, the result counts and you did a great job.

  • @adbc, Horo: Thank you very much for your kind comments.

Dan: WOW, both are really beautiful... my favorite is the Second, the "three sisters"....I love the perspective and the light.

Electro Elvis: your last version is beautiful too.

Dan - oh dear, when I re-read my last comment, I searched for the stars in the sky, but they are on your last entry “The Three Sisters” and I missed to comment on “Alien Marsh”. The alien vegetation is outstanding, form and colours. I also like how the distant plants fade into the haze. Another great entry.

So many beautiful images in this thread! and a dazzling variety of flowers among all of them too.

Gonna throw my own submission in too, "Resilience":

I want to keep working on this concept but I also wanted to make sure I got this entry in in time, so I may revisit this image later, but I'm pleased with how it looks nonetheless.

S Ray - great close-up of the beautiful blue roses.

papatulus - very nicely done scene, Resilience is a very good name for this work.

Dan, thanks for the comment. Your 2nd and 3rd entries are both very good. I prefer the last one, just because of the difference with typical flowers. And it is very colourful and well-rendered, of course.

Electro-Elvis, The last version is magnificent.

S Ray, Very weird colour scheme for a flower, but that really makes it a special render. I also like the leaves on the ground a lot.

Papatulus, Great concept and very good ruins. Very resilient flowers indeed.

  • @Yellow Pen, Hansmar, mermaid010, ed3d: Thank you very much.

    @ Dan:

    Thanks for your comments.

The Three Sisters - Fantastic close-up. A wonderful idea to show the sisters in front of a night sky, so they literally shine.

Alien Marsh - Really great alien plants. Very good work.

@ Electro-Elvis: The latest version of Poppy Meadow is really good, with two days of render time being really heavy. But it was worth it.

@ S Ray: Blue Roses - really good ones. In the red background, the blue flowers are an unusual eye-catcher. I like it.

@ papatulus: Resilience - Nice job with a suitable title.

For a month I was working on another idea but did not get the results I desired. Since the challenge is still open, I did another; my only entry.

    Reaching for the Stars.
