exporting .obj file to Element 3D

Hi all,

I am trying to export a model of a fountain from DAZ 3D to Element 3D as an .obj file. The model goes in just fine, but I can't locate the material file.

Is what I'm trying to do possible from DAZ?

I was thinking I might try exporting to 3DS Max as an .fbx file first, then export as an .obj file with a .mtl file. What's the best way to do this? Any tutorials around I might take a look at? I searched youtube and here and didn't find anything useful.

Thanks!

dHoward

You can try using the collect materials option in the exporter, then reapply them to the imported OBJ in Element. Some reworking of the materials would be almost inevitable whatever you did.

Ok..I tried that and it seems to work ok. I checked the box marked "collect maps" (I think...) when exporting from DAZ.

I had to create a separate folder in MY Models in Element 3D for the fountain, and when I exported from DAZ, the model was there, and a new folder was created called "maps" that had the .jpg files in it.

And ..you're right. It's a bit of a pain remapping the materials to the models...

    Thanks!

Ha! This is how I discovered Daz in the first place. I'd buy models and export out to E3D. It's a hassle yes, try a Stonemason product
