It just as well be crickets. I don't think the "fat lady" will be "warming her vocal chords" anytime soon.
I already have that in VR.....and it's awesome!
You got that right. I'm done here.
I picture this forum becoming a graveyard... or maybe a dungeon... or Elba Island of sorts.
Its starting off with two closed threads, so that's looking hopefully...
It's getting worse.
https://news.slashdot.org/story/21/05/29/1947255/intelligent-nft-created-linked-to-a-machine-learning-chatbot
Don't forget to read through the comments.
The article is your basic buzzword soup, but the gist of it is;
"So, is there an appetite for NFTs that talk back? Alethea CEO Arif Khan thinks so. "We're actually building a protocol that will allow you to take any NFT, put it into the smart contract infrastructure that we've built, and make it intelligent and interactive," "
Yeah... and one of those closed threads is a mind-boggling demonstration of marketing prowess: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/498526/new-embrace-love-nft
Seems we can thank Preston for some of this NFT Nirvana: "Preston Woo, Chief Strategy Officer of Daz 3D and Tafi and visionary behind the NFT’s creation"
With backing at that level, how long do you think this association of DAZ with NFTs will last?...
Now that this has been shuffled aside and I've said everything I intend to say on this silly subject I'm going to quit following the thread and ignore the subject from here on out.
Yeah, and I know I sound like a broken record, I'm just really really sad that DAZ is going down this route.
Actually, by stuffing dissenting threads here, it's actually more effective at archiving them as opposed to closing them on the main forums where they are actually a lot less easy to find... Granted it assures only a handful of people will see them, but it conveniently keeps them together... it's not like anyone is going to be posting any real NFT love-threads here besides perhaps some staff member assigned to do so... (Sorry DAZ_Jessica).
I'm waiting for some new person to post a "So what are NFTs?" thread.
I have a comprehensive explanation I'm will to share.
It is always remotely possible that it was not the intent to bury them.
Ok, but were there really that many threads about NFTs that required them to have a subsection of their own? It looks weird, especially as Daz started releasing NFTs again on OpenSea, which is the more polluting option.
It implicitly does give a statement, whether there is an intent or not.
I just want to read your explanation.
Great! No thank you.
OMG, AI NFTs, what if they reach singularity and rise up against there humanoid overlords.
To quote the Vorlon, "The avalanche has already started. It is too late for the pebbles to vote."
Richard is just a messenger.
Screwed is screwed.
I don't blame Richard, never would, I am aware how these type of things work. But I also think my statement was relevant enough to post.
I agree, and I agree with your message. Didn't mean to suggest otherwise. It's pretty clear this is the path Daz has chosen. I don't see a way around it except to leave here and maybe not come back for a year or three.
I have significantly cut down my spending here, especially when the previous discussion thread was locked. NFTs are not a solution to anything and the cheerleaders of NFT/crypto have nothing of substance on Why NFTs Are Great. Sorry if I sound a bit snarky, because to me, that is what the situation is. If you know something to be wrong, I am not going to pretend it is a good thing. Not even by coupling it with a charity. I mean you could just use the actual product revenue to go to charity. Or make actual artworks, the old fashioned way.
I've been thinking about what you said,...and I'd have to disagree though, there is definitely a case to be made for your argument. I've already made sure my signature contains, what I think, are the most important points of information about NFTs, and if I don't post, that exposure will get lost as well. It maybe tiny, but at least it is something and new users may check out this part of the forum to see what it's all about.
Or if you mean stop spending, yes, you are right, that really sucks though. I don't have as many assets as more veteran Daz users, and this is still the best place to get content. I really do not like that you are right about this.
And yes, I agree, the actions of the last couple of months are almost as good as a corporate statement IMO.
It's a mystery to me how some can.
I disagree; I regularly buy content at the other two major sites, the ones that start with Rendero. I never ever had any quality issues with the assets I bought there. In fact, they are, most of the time, better than what is sold here, especially from a QA point of view.
I have my content library divided into different folders, depending on the store I bought them. The folder of DAZ is a pure mess (folder names in singular and plural, obvious misspellings, and strange structures, etc.). My other folders look really clean in comparison; only two issues with Renderosity (Scene and Scenes, and Powerage's Bestiary) and not a single issue with the more lewd Rendero's stuff.
And both stores inform me via e-mail if a product gets an update.
True, and most likely it wasn't...
But I don't honestly see this becoming a hotbed of NFT love, so effectively the end result is the same... intentional or not.
I don't actually think anyone got together and said "let's bury these threads there! Muhahahahahahahaaa!"
Especially the laughter part which is very uncharacteristic as most individuals who laugh like that have handlebar mustaches which they rub the ends of while laughing like that, and I just don't see that sort of mustache being really popular at DAZ...
But likewise, I don't actually think anyone could possibly have thought this was going to be the hottest new forum where all the cool kids would get together to discuss NFTs in a positive fun and sunny manner...
Realistically, aside from a few positive, but poorly informed posts in a deceased thread, the only folks here who seem enthusiastic about NFTs seem to be folks who (I'm guessing) are assigned to make the announcements, and I'm not sure if that's genuine excitement or "yay... another announcement... great."
Then again who knows what other people think is fun and exciting... I go around sticking googly eyes on fruit and think that's funny... (in retrospect maybe I've got a whole NFT thing to explore with that?)...(no)...interesting forms of insanity aside, you do what the boss tells you whether you like it or not.
Having a place for these threads and comments to live does serve a purpose as these are discussions and the forum description does say it's for "discussions and updates" and I guess if these sorta threads live here then so do the updates, so I guess in a way they are sorta banished to obscurity too.
Together.
I don't think anyone would intentionally banish the NFT updates announcements to obscurity...
Or would they?... That would be fiendishly clever... real handlebar mustache stuff... simultaneously killing two birds with one forum... Could it be possible that by making your statement, you were indirectly hinting at the existence of a whole underground movement by the NFT Resistance League...?
Maybe it's all for the better if all this is confined here, sort of like a Phantom Zone for the NFT stuff...
Brilliant.
Or still yet, we are all the dream of an intelligent A.I. simulation, and none of this is real...
Too many possibilities...
Fine... it's probably not done on purpose... and my indirectly implying so was not fair.
Sorry.
Gads, I hate apologizing... however poorly I do it.... it's totally uncharacteristic of me and I'm pretty sure it makes me itchy.
I like making historical stuff, 1930's, 20's, renaissance, there is just not so much out there, and most of it is here whether I like it or not.
Same here… in fact I’m pretty sure Richard is part of the resistance…
Probably the head of it…
I’m convinced he’s actually a time traveling cat who’s come from a dystopian future to save mankind from itself…
Just look at his avatar…
He’s clearly left us clues in his username…
Richard Haseltine
If you rearrange the letters, what do you get?
Lancashire Dither.
Who is the most famous person from Lancashire?
Sir Ian Mckellen.
What is his most famous role?
Gandalf.
Besides smoking pot and lighting off illegal fireworks with hobbits, what did Gandalf most famously do?
Sacrificed himself fighting the Balrog, dragging it down to the bowels of Middle Earth…
Next…
Dither.
Dither is a term for a form of white noise used to reduce distortion of low amplitude signals.
Who communicates in low amplitude signals?
Elephants.
Who is the most famous elephant?
Babar.
Babar was created in 1931…
If you add 19 + 31 + 16 (the number of letters in Richard Haseltine), you get 82…
82 was the code number for Roger Carcassonne-Leduc a well know member of the French resistance who was fond of cats and also used the name “Richard” as one of his aliases.
There are 21 letters in “Roger Carcassonne-Leduc” which if you multiply by 82, equals 1,722…
In 1722 French mathematician Pierre Varignon died… Varignon who had a great affection for cats, is one of the earliest advocates for infinitesimal calculus and the author of a mechanical explanation of gravitation, a theory that would eventually lead to the understanding of quantum gravitational forces.
Without understanding quantum gravity, time travel is not possible.
Ergo, Richard is actually Felis Meowington the famous time traveling cat who saved mankind from global warming and an invasion of earth by shape shifting octopus birds from the Crab Nebula, and he has clearly left us a very obvious clue that he is secretly working for the resistance.
Of course now that I’ve blown his cover, things are a bit up the air, but luckily nobody will ever really read this thread anymore so…
Anyway...
Sorry if I've made your life a bit difficult... but it was totally worth it for a few seconds of simultaneously looking really smart and bats**t insane.
Yeah... I'm wondering if this whole thing is a metaphor for NFTs... like the momentary gratification over the long term safety...
No... I'm too shallow for that.
Ok, so I did put a trigger in this thread just for you McGyver to see where you would take it,...you completely tiggered on a different post,...
@BlueFingers I would be sad to leave here. I like a lot of the people here and there are a lot of items I would still like to buy and use. Daz's commitment to NFTs is troubling for all the reasons stated since the promotions began. I would be much happier if the whole awful NFT thing went away. I hoped Daz would declare it a failed experiment. Instead, it appears they're doubling down on promoting it. What a mess!
It does matter what a company promotes, sells, and does. Certain activities can make a company too distasteful to support, even if the support also provides me with benefit.
@McGyver Please keep doing that voodoo you do so very well.
Who told you about the voodoo?... technically I have a court order compelling me to not perform acts of voodoo, necromancy or any forms of reanimating the dead for the next 60 days... it's complicated, but after the incident with the grave robbing, I kinda have to cool it.
Its like my daughter said the other day... "If you don't wanna be grave robbed, don't die"...
Seriously, she said that, it was relevant and I'm proud of her.
Oh. sorry. We were talking about it on another site. I thought everyone knew. Probably best to cool it on the grave robbery, yes. Kids are full of cool wisdom like that.
There's a grave robbery forum at Renderosity?
Damn... I never noticed... I should probably go over there and check it out, I've got lots of tips to share.
What sucks is that there probably are long-term applications for NFTs and they will undoubtedly evolve (even if I'm not happy about it). The unsustainable, unrealistic thing is the idea that there's suddenly a massive market for ownership of literally anyone's digital art, and that what market there is will persist forever. Even if people remain interested in buying NFTs of digital art, there is nothing at all unique about the format to make people want one of my work. I'm not famous. There's no bragging rights in saying you own a number attached to a piece of art I've created.
NFT marketplaces are basically just Redbubble without physical products. If you've ever tried to sell art on a site like that when you don't have an existing audience or an established body of work, you're rolling the dice. It's actually a struggle to sell stuff when you do have those elements in place. Some of the smaller names who were early adopters had their work picked up, but now, like...how is anyone dying to own a link for clout supposed to find you in this sea of random stuff people tossed up? Why would they be interested?
This isn't saying our work isn't worthy; art is consistently devalued and it sucks. But I cannot fathom the leaps of logic it took people to believe that a stable crypto art market would be any friendlier to small, relatively unknown artists than a gallery. Or Twitter. Or anywhere else. This could be the most above-board thing in the world and you would still have to hustle like mad to get anywhere with the same likelihood of success, especially when the buyer doesn't even get anything for their purchase except a limited right to claim to own your art. The prestige is the only draw!
I own physical original pieces from indie artists who IMO should be wildly famous and bringing in tons of money and it's actually infuriating to have seen this happen, as though the problem was just that we hadn't found the right internet buttons to push to get art collectors to open their wallets. If there's one silver lining from this, maybe it's that to make the big money happen a lot of influential people had to admit that digital art has value.
