Lip synching

I recently ran into a problem with lip synching inside of Carrara 8.5 Pro (using Mimic Pro for Carrara).

I'm able to load a fresh M4 and that seems to lip synch properly.

But the M4 in this scene, who's already dressed up and animated, barely responds - with only a couple of nonspecific lip movements after loading the M4 dmc through the mimc tab and adding a sound file. Not seeing any blinks or eyebrow movements either in this particular case - but if I click on M4's head, I can see the visemes listed in the parameters and the values actually do change as you scrub the timeline.

Any idea what might be going wrong or how to fix it?

    are you using an NLA clip with head included for your body animation

    Just looked and there was an NLA clip - if I recall correctly, I'd set that up not to include head or nexk. Tried disabling and then deleting that NLA clip, but still not having any lip synch show up. And tehre were other Mimic recordings further down the timeline which also show almost no lip movement.
