subsurface shading comparison

Finally started trying to understand subsurface shading with Age of Armor's subsurface base. The two figures are both rendered with UberEnviornment at 100% intensity (though why the background of one is brighter than the other I can't tell you, my DAZ is funky that way).

I'm noticing some artifact on her head, shoulder, and chest. I haven't found a way to get rid of it. Does anyone have any tricks?
