New short movie: Last day of august
Hi,
I've just finished a short (very short :) ) movie called "Last day of august". This is actually one of satellite movies for the main project "Battalion". Don't know if some term exists for these so I have named them "insights". They will not form the story of their own but will tell more thing about the world where main story takes place. They will come in different genres and styles (this one is somewhat like commercial). Probably there will be one or two more before the release of the first chapter of main title.
Here is the link: http://vimeo.com/user35934192/battalion-in-01
Also attached a frame as example.
Planned, assembled and animated in DAZ Studio, rendered by Octane and 3delight, video composited and edited by AviSynth and encoded for Vimeo by x264.
Happy New Year 2015, have your dreams fulfilled and new dreams coming!

This is really excellent! Especially since it is done in DAZ Studio.
I hope to see more of your work.
Best Regards
A-sennov,
This is really, really well done, some really good stuff in here. The interaction between the characters was excellent as was the individual character animation. The only small crit. I would have is that the high rise city/buildings models aren't at the same quality as the rest of the buildings.
You did a super job on this.
wonderful work using DS !
Maybe I have overpostworked them ? The intention was for them to be very different so I've recolored them bluish, blurred and added the haze based on the depth. The front building is from the latest Stonemason's Gribble City blocks set, others are from older City Blocks by Nightshift3d and Moebius. I'll investigate the problem.
About the continuation: I'm planning to release something roughly monthly but real life might have it's own plans too :)
A-sennov,
If your intention was for the highrise city to be very different then you succeeded and I definitely felt the depth or how far away the city is from your main scene. I think the architecture style of highrise buildings compared to the street scene can maybe give you a bit of leeway with the distance haze(a bit). Maybe lighten up the haze just a bit so a few more details show up and see how it looks.
This is just a suggestion because as you know I think you did an excellent job on this.
I look forward to your next animations and yes life does get in the way sometimes.

Experimented a bit and now I think that the problem is that AviSynth uses 8bit color depth and that's not enough dynamic range especially when multiple filters dealing with colors are stacked on each other. Maybe I have to switch to 16bit pipeline with something like Fusion. (or find a way to do the same with less passes :) )
Next short will have a lot of city scenes so it will be many opportunities to improve that sort of rendering :)
I agree with the others above, nice work. We seem to have the same favorite 3D vendors .. Faveral, Stonemason, etc.
Good luck , I am sure you will find a good solution. Isn't there a free Fusion version now? I am pretty sure there is, maybe you could check it out. .

Nice work! What are you doing/using to get the flowing hair detail?
I didn't much setup for this short and mostly used the movement morphs built into the hair with the help of one D-Former to adjust the motion of ponytail's tip.
When I need more control I usually make D-Forms into hierarchy or add extra bones to hair. Once I even made a custom morph in Hex :)
Yes, and I'm trying to grok it without reading the manual now :) It has pretty well scripting support (that's what I like AviSynth for) so I think we'll be friends :)
Your reply is appreciated. The hair morphs look good. I'll have to try hair morphs in this way.
It makes me wonder about creating animated hair presets to match actions like walking.
That's how it was done:
1. First the main figure was animated using SKAMotion's walk aniblock (plus simple initial aniblock for cloth simulator to be happy)
2. Next, matching aniblock was made for hair. (initially 2 sec in length, then cropped and looped to match walking)
3. D-Form animated on timeline to add some 'randomness' to movements
4. Animation of Giselle baked to DS timeline so cloth simulator could pick it up, while hair left as is.
5. Many tweaks to cloth settings until all simulation ran smoothly.
bravo - what I want to do when I grow up... (something was said about life's plans in the way?)
brilliant, across the board. thanks for that.
mindsong
Thanks. More will be coming :)
Great Job a-sennov, you can tell you put a lot of work in this...
I look forward to seeing more of what you come up with :)
Thanks, Ivy. Engines of the next part are warming up... :)
a-sennov,
Nice looking render, I too am looking forward to the next part of your movie.:-)
Somewhere near the end of Jan - beginning of Feb. If all goes well...
This was very well done animation. Really liked the intro Parisienne tone and then the sharp juztopose of the floating car. The storytelling and nuances are all there. You have a director's eye for details. And the girl's catwalk animation worked cause the footfalls sold well on the cobblestone. All in all, a good memorable short film.
Thank you, I'll try to do better in the next "insight" and especially in "main" movie. BTW, parts of your products will be seen in both :)
