Fantasy Weapons Collection 3, RELEASED [commercial]

This third part in the line of fantasy weapon collections takes a step closer to the real history. It contains a Nordic sword (influenced by the Viking swords), a long sword and a simple one-hand sword (influenced by early European swords) - and they all come with scabbards! ;) There is also a round shield with a center grip and a purely fantasy style one-hand war axe. The shield has six different material presets.

Static props come in native DS 4.5+ (.duf) and Poser (.obj + .pp2, with legacy .ds mats) formats. There are left and right hand smart props (weapons only!) with hand poses for Genesis 2 Female & Male and corresponding Poser companion files.

Oh, and they are here Fantasy Weapons 3

The set looks wonderful, we need realistic weaponry.

Excellent! I was wondering when you'd do a shield! :)

    Oooooo, purdy!

Any chance you could do belts for the scabbards? Pleeaaaaaaasse! :cheese:

I was about to ask the same thing! :)

I'm very pleased you're doing scabbards with the swords which is already a step above most weapon collections but belts/straps/harnesses would be even better! :D

The wood on that shield is surprisingly effective.

now I am very impressed with the realism of the hilts, and the shield's wood. very nice.

Pleas tell me that the point-of-origin is NOT two stories above the items, so they can easily be put in racks and around a scene?

Honestly, I couldn't agree more. It's just that I'm not there yet, i.e. I haven't yet learned rigging clothing or other soft objects (it is on my to do -list, though). I considered doing belt(s) too, but I wanted to finish this project and not use it as a training course. I almost left the scabbards out, because I wasn't able to do belts for them, but finally decided to make them anyway. :)

    Thanks! :)

The origin is in the center of each prop (for both DS and Poser versions) and while I know it's not the most optimal place for all purposes, I think it's the most logical generally.

    Excellent!

I already have collections 1 and 2. They see more use than any other vendor's weapons. I think you have the perfect blend of practical weapons and beautiful detail.

"O" must have, thanks for the hint :cheese:

And thanks Porsimo. I had dealt with a quill the last major render I did, that I wanted in a jar of ink just leaning against the lip. Needles to say, that was near impossible to do. As soon as I zoomed in enough to see where it was relative to the jar-lip, the move-thing was out of sight, and when I went to tilt the thing a tad (using the parameters tab controls), it flew off to the other side of the room, lol. :coolhmm: (To hell with this, I'll make my own quill in Hexagon. It'll be easier and quicker then fussing with that thing, wherever it just took off to, lol)

So center is actually preferred for getting it into a hand, and parenting it there, or placing the thing somewhere. Especially for figures the prop dose not have a 'Pose' for.:cheese:

Great to hear! I hope I can keep it like that with my future products, too. ;)

Yeah, rotating things accurately can be a real pain. No point of origin is suitable for all purposes. It would be great to be able to select the rotating point in addition to the default origin, just like in modelling softwares...

For your problems with the quill, the script written by DeltaX15 would have been perfect. It's called Move origin and can be found here: http://www.4shared.com/dir/722776/10801f63/DS_Scripts.html#dir=Gl1KlH4s. It's an old script, made for DAZ Stdio 1.x, but works perfectly in my 64bit DS 4.7. :)

Thanks for the link. I usually export as an obj, load into max and change the center on problem items and then save, what a pain, so looking forward to trying the script.

Great looking weapons, love the detail on the scabbards. in lieu of a belt, maybe the small belted part(s) that connects to the scabbard (Hanger Frog) and then connects to the belt, would be easier to pose, wouldn't have to rig it and would add more believability to the image.

Thanks. I almost made those belted parts, but for the flexibilty of use I would've rigged them or at least created morphs for movemets. As separate props they could be easy to add and use... I have to think about this a bit more! :)

Just love a shield that is correct (having different materials on the front and back). Most are just showing the front texture on the back side, which is really bad!

Even though my shield has only a thin layer of leather on front instead of multple layers of linen ;)
But yeah, I was aiming for authenticity, but with some artistic liberties (with construction too). :)
    Awesome looking set! :)

    Thanks! :)

I have your first set (as well as various other items from your shop of course) but I was heavily debating getting the second but finances were an issue at the time and now the next set of ultra-realistic weapons have arrived and the debating has been reopened (along with some serious kicking of myself for not grabbing vol 2 when it was on sale).

How many more sets are you currently planing for and have you thought of bundles? :D

Now that we have a shield in the set (a superb item judging by the renders - that wood is amazing), are you planning more shields in future sets? Perhaps a set just of shields, a set just for melee weapons and a set just of bows?

Bringing up the subject of belts/straps/harnesses for scabbards (and potentially for quivers), would it be possible to have these as dynamic items - that way they'll fit over any clothes and you won't need to rig them.

Well, I will continue making all kinds of weapons, but I have no actual plans for new fantasy/historical weapon sets yet . Most probably more will come, but when and how many, I don't know... I haven't actually planned any of these three sets either. ;) I've just made them when I've got a bunch of ideas (and this latest set has two swords which are basically created by request). I've thought of bundles and may release one, but most probably not in the near future.

Shields? Definitely! :) (and thanks!) I was going to add another one for this set, but time was running short and I had to leave it out.
I have also been thinking of bows on many occasions, but from a business point of view I fear that a set of bows only may fall too much in the niche market. That doesn't mean I couldn't add a bow or two in a set, among other weapons ;)

Dynamics could work in Poser, but in DS it would bring in other problems, as - to my knowledge - dynamic items are figure/shape depended, i.e. item created for M6 won't work on Gianni and vice versa (correct me if I'm wrong). Also, people tend to prefer conforming items over dynamic ones anyway, so I preferably just learn rigging. :)

Petri, please keep making sets like these, I already own three of them and this one will be a welcome addition. The scabbards are a plus with your sets and the texturing is nicely detailed.

I can see where the requests come from for belts, but remember that every vendor has their own strong points. Petri has a real good working process for hard surfaces with excellent textures. Belts (leather in most cases) is a soft surface and not as easy to do well. That said, there are ways around it.

A standard belt that fits most genesis figures, then attachments that can be parented to the standard belt. I'd suggest rings or ornaments to link the attachment to the belt itself. Since the ornaments would be hard-surface, they'd only need a bit of room to allow for movement to the side and a small degree for left/right?

    Thanks, John! :)

Oh, I definitely am going to keep making them! ;) And I will make belt(s) too. I actually once modelled a sword belt for M4, just never got to rig it. It might be a good start to make one for Genesis, but I still need to learn rigging first. At least to a some degree I consider soft surface modelling easier than hard surface modelling, but UV mapping and rigging them are a bit different thing :)

Good to hear you'll keep at it, buddy and you're welcome. ;)

Rigging is one of the things I still need to pick up on myself, but I have started on a few projects for hard surface models on my new computer. (AMD 6core 3.5 Ghz, 16Gb ram, 2Gb graphics) So expect to hear from me too, as my first ones will be a couple more freebies.

I do agree that it'll be a good idea for you to start working on rigging, to expand on what you have learned so far. You've made very good progress, my friend.

Well, I began work on a freebie, which is meant for the SW fangroup here as a light transport. I posted it in the Star Wars thread, but no replies there so far... so I wonder if they're interested.

Also on the shelf, a rifle to go with my freebie gun and a holster for the gun. ;)
