If I buy from the store and use the installer everything works fine, installing to C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library.
However, if I manually put studio content not bought from Daz into that folder it doesn`t show up in my smart content or content library .I`m more used to Poser where if I put a prop into my runtime/libraries/props folder, it shows up in my library. I like Daz Studio 4.7 but I`m having lots of newbie probs. I you could help I`d be grateful.

DAZ bought products contain metedata that provide the information for smart content to work. Those other store products probably don't. You should still be able to access them manually through the content library.

They should show up in Content Library > DAZ Studio Formats/Poser Formats

You should not be mixing DIM installed content from DAZ with content from other places. Studio can access multiple libraries by simply adding them in its Content Directory Manager.

While that is true, as things can get confused if a non-DIM product adds a file that was also added by a DIM product and then you uninstall the DIM product, it isn't always avoidable - ExP morphs for the fourth generation figures must all be in the same content directory, for example.
