Iray Materials for Old 3Delight products

Sky77Sky77 Posts: 820

What is the process of converting materials / using Iray features for older products.  For example, I used a very old freebie, Blowing Leaves, to create embers in a recent render (https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/505596/3d-art-freebie-challenge-july-2021-wild-wild-west-main-thread-only/p4).   (sorry I don't remember how to link to the exact post... if there is a way, please let me know that as well!  laugh)

Anyway, the Blowing leaves product since it was pre-Iray, does not have a light emmission option on the surfaces tab so I could not get it to glow in the iray render as the flames do.  How do I go about adding Iray materials / slider options?

Simplist way is just select that material zone and apply the base iray uber shader. Then you might have to tweak the material settings for best look. there are a couple of converters in the store, but i don't use any of them.

DS will apply the Iray Uber base at render time, so unless you are going to adjust settings there is no real reason to do it manually.

    Perfect!  Thank you both.

Richard is right but you will notice when applying the uber shader glossiness comes in at 100% which is usually not desirable for many things you don't want shiny, like clothing etc. It's easy to fix though.

I suppose many people, like me, have saved a kind of neutral uber shader preset as a strating point for clohng, toweling etc. which you can add textures to later.

Nice tip.  I will have to do that too.  Thanks!
