Genesis 8.1 to 8

Hi everyone,

new enthusiast here, in need of some help...

I started to collect all stuff for G8.1, and liking it, but I would also love to use some geometry shell based stuff made for G8 and not compatible with 8.1. Is there a quick way to make a version 8 copy of a 8.1 character? I tried to save a 8.1 character preset and to load it on a 8 character but obviously it doesn't work :(

Thank you in advance

C.

In theory, you can export an 8.1 character at base resolution and re-import it as a morph for G8, then reapply the materials (with some manual cleanup for the differing material zones).

    Never tried it, though.

  • It depends on what you're trying to copy from one character to another. If you're talking about morphs, they should automatically install on both the 8 and 8.1 bases--so shaping presets should work, so long as they're not hierarchical. For textures, I'm not sure if there's a way to use an actual 8.1 texture on an 8 character as they have different UV maps--some 8.1 characters do use the 8 UV maps though. If they do use 8 maps, you can save them as a material preset and put them on an 8, just again don't make it hierarchical and I believe you'll need to apply the eyelash textures separately.

    Hope this is helpful!

If the morphs are made for G8.1, they will not 'automatically install' to G8 because G8 will not see or load them.

They can be made to work on G8, but that requires moving the morphs to G8 morph folders and maybe some manual editing of the code inside the morphfiles.

Here's one way to make Bodyhair Project 78 for 8.0 work on 8.1.
Other geoshell products will work in the same or similar ways:

    - Load geoshell on 8.1, apply all the materials. The Head and Body area remain white because of the incompatibility.

    - Select geoshell, apply IRAY Uber shader to Head and Body area.

    - Select Arms area. Right-click, copy surface.

    - Select Head area, paste. Repeat with Body area.

    - Select Head and Body area. Manually replace all the Arms maps with the equivalent Torso maps. In this case it's just Cutout Opacity and Displacement.

    Hope this helps.
