How to create character geoshell in maya?

Has anyone figured out how to duplicate the geoshell behavior in Maya as it is in Daz Studio? The only way I have found to get a perfectly expanded shell is to use Extrude on the geometry but it doubles the polycount and I need it to remain the same. Scaling in all axes will not work because of the assymetry from the feet to head even if the pivot is centered. Thank you for any help!
