NEW! Novica & Invited Guest Contributors Tips & Product Reviews Pt 6
As of February 1, 2015, the five threads have 255,004 views / participation clicks. We usually have between 10,400 - 12,000 views / posts every month for the five threads. In my opinion, it's because the Invited Guest Contributors (ICGs) continue to put great thought into the product discussions, and the renders they share are extremely well done. You'll see those artists designated by "Invited Guest Contributor" in their render posts, and they were selected based on their talent and demeanor in the forums- very helpful folks!
I'm going to try a few different things this thread- we'll see how it goes. :) The emphasis will continue to be on quality renders, so there will be a few guidelines, but I want to give others a chance to strut their stuff on some of the themes/vendors that we'll be showcasing. I'll explain that in the next post- see Open Sessions.
Remember the Reference Section, which has new links added frequently. I use it all the time! When reading the other forum sections, if there are helpful tips or FYI that is good to keep handy, I put a link. That section will be the second one down from this one, so you'll be able to find it quickly.

Thread Open To All Forum Members
Ever see a product that I have showcased and thought, "Oh yeah, I've done that one!" Well...
Now the thread is open to all forum members to showcase their favorite products!
Vendors may also post if it is not previously used promo art. ICG's should continue doing what you've been doing.
Please follow the guidelines listed beneath this section when doing your renders. Thanks!
Guidelines
The Open Invitation Sessions are for the forum members can help showcase the wonderful products by the talented DAZ vendors. The renders in this thread need to be complimentary to the products, so I would greatly appreciate it if the artists would keep these general guidelines in mind:
1. Please- no works in progress. If you know you made an error on it and you're "gonna fix it" it's not ready for this thread. We appreciate your help in showing the products in the best possible manner.
2. Family friendly please. It can be sexy, let's use common sense on grossly exaggerated body parts and how much flesh is showing. Themes should be done in good taste.
3. Remember the purpose of the post- it's to show details of the products! Renders that are washed out by bright lights or are dark and obscure the products, are not much help to the viewers. The examples linked below will show you what we're looking for. :)
4. Please provide a link. This helps the viewers quickly wishlist the products.
5. Please tell what you like about the product. It doesn't have to be a fancy writeup, only a line or two is fine. If there is something you would like to see improved, be diplomatic. Also leave room for the possibility it could be something you are doing wrong. (Been there, it's usually ME!!!) Ask for other people's input- see if they have encountered the same concern.
EXCEPTION: If the product is already linked in the posts preceding it, aka, it is currently under discussion, you don't need to re-invent the wheel.
6. Also take responsibility for your opinions- and acknowledge that's what they are! Example: Refrain from authoritative statements like "The eyes are way too small..." and phrase it, "I personally like eyes which are larger." Vendors try very hard to please buyers, but they can't please everyone!
7. Renders can be any size, but I really prefer a minimum 600 pixels (either measurement) so details can be easily seen with "click to enlarge." The bigger the better.
8. If you are showing the product without changing anything (other than poke through) that is called "out of the box." If you are showing a character and have used morphs to change the face or body, please tell us. I personally do characters out of the box for most of the renders because its what you start with from the purchase. If I add a smoothing modifier to hair, I will tell the viewers.
9. You can post previously posted renders.
Here are some samples from a few of the Invited Guest Contributors which will give you an idea of what we're looking for so far as lighting and the format:

Both Clair and Aubree Hair are out of the box. Very easy to use! Watch out for any long hair against those scarves, I had to do some postwork because even though I thought I looked closely, I had some going through the material. The hair takes awhile to render, but it is NOT one of those "OMGosh...maybe next week it'll be done" type hairs.
I love the lace in those leggings. Kudos to the vendors!
**Nice To Know** For the boots- choose your pose first. Then, with the figure (not the feet) selected, you'll find "Poses" with the Materials. That will straighten out the heels.
Any product I render is also an Open Session- -Anyone else who has Clair, Aubree Hair, or Early Spring Outfit rendered, feel free to share.
I think you'll really like this lighting:

We've not gone yet, still waiting on results of surgery for treatment to start. Thankfully it's given me time to finish up one of my pressing projects and almost done with a second. One more 2D commission after that and I can stop stressing about work as much and stress about Mama instead. LOL Hopefully y'all will get to see the fruits of my stress for Valentine's day.
Gotta get some sleep (it's 9:5am) as I wanted to get the thread set up. In case you missed it- because it was a reserved post and not filled in-
here's what's new in this thread. We are having Open Sessions with designated topics and vendors for ALL the forum members who wish to participate in showcasing the products and discussing what they like about them. There's also a couple fun Valentine Day's themes.

From there, scroll down to see the Clair and Early Spring render, with Aubree Hair. Love that hair! :)
See ya in about 8 hours. Have fun, thanks for popping in and all your support.

Well, the DAZ Rose is the first official "can be 3D Printed" product!
But this particular rose has more than meets the eye. The DAZ rose was specially designed with 3D printing in mind. The petals, calyx, and stem were designed to create enough intersection conducive to a quality 3D print. It has special "thicken" morphs that allow you to scale and size the petals, the stem, and the thorns so that they can be 3D printed. It also includes a 3D Printable base with a matching hole for the stem.
Well, the 3D printables (first of all, hate that term- a print to me is a PRINT, not 3D. Should use the word Figurines) seem very restrictive IMO if you can't do anything with them except personal use. And how's that going to work? You give a figurine (that you pay about $40 for?) to a relative as a gift, and you can't control what they want to do with it. They may adore it for a year, then give it away, or what if they sell it? The EULA isnt enforceable except for the first purchaser.
When I get the free Victoria, I will post a picture for you. From the other thread, it seems quite a few of the folks I know are receiving it.
So far I haven't received a Vickie figurine. I would like to be able to examine one personally.
I'm Just browsing threw stuff today. And yes, new thread smell, lol.
I noticed a cool outfit set in passing, by Ant-farm and that red arachnid lady %-P
http://www.daz3d.com/knit-gear
What I find interesting, is the collection of morphs that don't appear to require specific matching poses, and the rather impressive knit geometry on the sweater (I don't know if that is bump, or polygons). A really nice combo for the not so fantasy like renders. I'll be checking that out some time within the week
So given the list there Novica, I look forward to the demo renders by everyone.
I received my v6 in the mail yesterday. Very cool freebie and surprisingly shiny. I can see some real potential there for those who like action figures and statues.
That is cool SereneNight. I just rescued her from the +4.8F temps outside, brrrr. As with anything going from that cold to as worm as it is in here, some time will be needed to let the temps stabilize, to prevent condensation where we don't want it.
Cool Sticker on the box by the way, thanks so much Daz3D.
I am really off schedule sleep-wise, so got up late afternoon and then had to figure out how to get photos off my new cell phone. My other one was 5+ years old, a real dinosaur. All I needed was to see the weather while I was out at the ranch, and to send texts. Anyway, here they are- the box was perfect shape, the figurine hand broken like many other people are reporting.
Anyway, here she is, with a closeup or two. The box has already been shown, so I won't repeat that. Here it is, opened. There was no crushing, no dents- the packing definitely broke the figurine. The top layer of bubblewrap was easily pulled straight back (from the bottom right corner, you can kinda see it raised up.)
Next, I moved the bubblewrap, extremely carefully, pulling it straight over to the left, knowing about the breakage problem reported by others. The hand was already embedded down into the bubblewrap. (See arrow.) They needed to wrap those extensions (arms) with styrofoam sheets before they put them in bubblewrap- the packaging rubbed and broke off the hand. Anyway, here's some closeups, as promised.
And thank you DAZ :)
Cathie
very nice. If you have something akin to Electronics "helping hands", to hold the hand in place, the one page did suggest superglue to mend things like the broken hand. I would not do that direct contact to the claw, I would put something there to protect the finish, if not use some form of a 'Potato bag clip" in the claws to hold the broken off hand wile the glue sets. It's a thought.
I was just sifting threw last nights orders, and spotted something new, 3d print Geo-graft for G2M and G2F, hmmm. something else to look into I guess.
The best set of photos I've seen yet re: the packaging. exciting stuff. Still waiting for mine to arrive.
Give me about five minutes, I am posting the base photo here. You won't believe how realistic THAT looks.
EDIT: No photo enhancements. Photo from iphone6.
Ambie (Daz Originals / DemonicaEvilius / Silver)
Grace Dress for Genesis 2 Female(s) (Karth)
Hikari Hair (Daz Originals / Valea)
http://www.daz3d.com/ambie
http://www.daz3d.com/grace-dress-for-genesis-2-female-s
http://www.daz3d.com/hikari-hair
This hair and Ambie render at a very nice pace- and both are shown out of the box except for chest reduction. Ambie was easy to light too. This is with a shading rate of .20 and a fairly large render. The Grace Dress has a very nice selection of colors and I couldn't resist the purple. There are two color choices for the belt.
When you look for the Grace Dress, in Content Library under People>Genesis 2 Female(s), it will be under Clothing and then Karth.
So if you're looking for a clubbing dress, character, and hair that renders fairly quickly, consider this combination.
Any product I render is also an Open Session- -Anyone else who has Ambie, Grace Dress, or Hikari Hair rendered, feel free to share.
From this angle and with the hair, she looks like Radha Mitchell
Yes, I can definitely see that resemblance! :)
BTW, congratulations on the newest releases. (traffic cones and the skywalk.) My favorite is the circular skywalk. I don't have it yet (due to paying for vet bills and cremation services for two pets in late December and their medical bills- having to take it easy in the purchase department) but I really love the huge opportunities that set provides for using in stories. Nicely done! (and the aliens are a hoot.)
http://www.daz3d.com/sci-fi-circular-skywalk
So, how did you get a free figure?
I paid DAZ $750,000 out of the million dollar lottery that I won. But don't tell anyone.
I paid DAZ $750,000 out of the million dollar lottery that I won. But don't tell anyone. lol.
I don't know, it was a humble surprise to me. me, they sent me one, :blank: I'm not worthy.
Of course you are worthy! :) (And so are the people who didn't get them.)

There are 45 expressions for Stephanie 6, but they work very well for G2F. And the Mei Lin poses work well for the Gia character! (Neomi)
The Gothic Hair rendered slowly, but it was more of a closeup than the Yu Hair. However, it was significantly slower. 23% at an hour, two and a half hours was 40%.
One thing about Kazumi- go ahead and select your pose, then in Content Library, go to the next menu and where Materials are, there will be a foot pose. It will straighten out the heels.
Went for a funky combination with Kazumi and Gothic Hair.
For the Gothic Hair- there weren't any dark options so I selected the lightest one, went dark Diffuse, and blues for the Specular and Specular 2. I wanted to show what Corel Photo Paint's Adjustment Lab can do- I also own PhotoPaint but I really love the Corel. It can change the midtones, shadows, highlights, saturation, contrast, brightness, hue, temperature, etc. And I have an older version. Look at the difference! :)
Any product I render is also an Open Session- -Anyone else who has these products rendered, feel free to share.
I like the lights you put in gothic hair. Good work there.
Thanks, I wanted to test black against black. There is a distant light overhead, two or three from the sides, etc.
Doing Kenzi with Jenna Hair for tomorrow.
I had issues with the Twisty Dress crashing my computer, even with only a 900 pixel render. The shading rate was even reduced from .20 to .40, and I took out the DOF camera as suggested in another thread. Did about four hours of research on CPU, RAM, etc. I don't know what it was that my computer didn't like, but I did both those renders (Ambie and Neomi) with multiple outfits and no crashes. Ambie was the one the Twisty Dress crashed on. I restarted my computer many times, cleaned the disc, etc. Have a lot of room on the directory. The memory was over a million, but right now doing a render and it's over 2 mill and no problem. (2,443,100 for studio in Task Manager.)
Not going to waste anymore time on it but it was puzzling. Anyone had problems with a certain outfit crashing that made no sense?
