Vertex, most efficient way to cut 4 edges in thirds and connect the verts?

hi. thanks.
i started with a cube. selected a poly one on each side and bridged. it made a nice corridor.
i wanted to cut the 4 edges of the inside corridor into thirds.
was using the add vert and link tool, not really efficient.
tried the subdivide with auto link, it connected the verts diagonally instead of it's straight across neighbors.
can anyone recommend the easy way?
in wings it would be select the 4 edges, r-click 'cut 3' , c key for connect
 i put the checkered pattern on the cube to test if my uvs were even. when i rotated the cube the checkers didn't stay put?

It may be hard to explain but is really easy to do .
Use the "V" key to add the vertices at 1/3 on each of the 4 edges where you want the cut. Now select the 4 edges that are closest to the points you just added, they should all be connected form on long group of edges. Now use the extract along tool and extract the new edges until they run into all the 4 vertices at the 1/3 position. You will find that the edges and vertices are all welded together and form a new edge loop.
If you don't understand this I will do a quick video.
Now you've hit on one of the main reasons I use Hex! :)
You can also delete the corridor polygons and reselect the edge outlines to be bridged. Now click on the Bridge tool icon again and before you commit, setup the Segments count or Twist, in the right side bridge options panel.
bridge tool has a segments parameter?
hott  Thanks!!
i would still like to know how to cut/connect a ring of edges conveniently.
won't always know ahead of time how many segments to use.
but ... what about the 4 edges at the same time?
i selected one edge, g for group
in edge mode, it looks like selecting an edge automatically selects the verts on either end?
would the extract along tool somehow do thirds for a ring of edges?
Thanks,
this is like a major hurdle trying to comprehend. :)
in WIngs the workflow would be
select edge, G (= ring)
cut
3
c
Misty whisky, here is a short video showing a way to do edge loops in Carrara, it is a workaround as Carrara doesn't have a knife type tool.

thanks. :)
i just remembered the Borg travel in cube ships.
