New to the Hexo world - Question on its usability

Hi,

I wanted to know if;

1. can you take a purchased item from daz 3d studio and port it to Hexo for morphiong?

2. Can you do the same for clothing ot props...

3. Can you do the same for purchased environments?

4. Is hexo allowing you to change or add new texture to the ported items? Like a green environment can make it pink or add text to a sign etc..

Thank you :)

That's what the Hexagon Bridge is for.

That what the Surface tab in D|S is for.

  • you awesome and TY! time to study!

  • Hi Elidaman198

Copyright side of things I'd say no, you cannot sell or give things away as freebies. If it's for personal use then you can -

    1. Use the DS-Hex bridge to morph a figure. It will not work if you add or remove faces.

    2. Have not tried clothes but you can morph props, somethings you cannot do with morphs, but you can prep things for rigging with Hexagon.

3, Envrionments, again not sure coz I have not tried.

    4. You would normally texture things with a paint package, check out the UV maps supplied with the prop.. You can change the UVmap with Hexagon (simple props like wine bottles).

  • I dont plan to sale it but intentions are for my personal use be it for whatever like a video..

i bought a black gun lets say but would like to have it morphed to a pink uzi.. guess by the first reply that i can do that.

    The "ladies" edition, yes. (-:

In my (limited) experience the easiest way has been to use shaders in DAZ Studio. Some model sets have portable shaders eg. they were originally "intended" for one thing but you could easily use them for something else. Example: a set of trophy bases might have metallic shaders to allow you to make a loving cup or a movie award sort of thing; in this case you could apply the *gold* shader variant to your weapon and presto, you now have a "golden" gun etc.

  • Hexagon does not handle all the fancy new shaders so apply those after modeling is finished back in Daz Studio.

One can share morphs that they make for any figure, clothing, prop, etc. item [generally speaking]. IF one is remaking UVmaps totally from scratch then using the D/S method to make and save the new uvset, those brand new uvsets can also be shared. [otherwise not because we cannot share the .obj files of course]

Hexagon does not handle the heavy hairs well at all [lack of memory] so not recommended for morphing them. Mileage varies per computer system.

And the Bridge is Priceless, yes :-)

  • Thanks and again any guide to best tutorial for these lessons.

Here are a couple more YouTube 3D modelling sites -

Danny - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zu-xZNYYv20&ab_channel=CGDreamsTutorials Definetly check these out, 26 short videos which explain almost everything you need to know yes

    Max Hancock - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-nnNeTuSYrkAJ2HqshmVVw

    EZ - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8wk2yhaJcM&ab_channel=TheEZhexagon

    Johnn Bevo - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klSb5vh6PE8&ab_channel=johnnybevo

    Danny - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Scn_kDCc8o&ab_channel=tecy

There is another site I recommend but the videos are hard to find now, search Youtube for Hexagon tutorials by GeekAtPlay and look for Gary Miller.

Edit, I found one of Gary's to get you started - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOuhsaMyGiU&ab_channel=vladimirchopine

I have done videos myself but because of medical reason I have difficulty speaking, sorry mine have no sound, so most of my tutorials are step-by-step screen grab style.

You would want to use a 2D app such as Photshop, PSP, G.I.M.P., etc. for that. While Hexagon 'should' be able to paint textures it certainly does not do a good job on every system. Over here it 'bleeds' all over the place.
