Voting rules
As simple as possible....

Voting is open to anyone with a DAZ 3D account.

Each person may vote for up to three entries.

Votes are per entry.
If an artist has two images you wish to vote for, you may use a vote for each one, leaving you with one remaining vote to cast.

Anonymous votes will be accepted with good cause.
Please PM me (Varsel) if you think you need to vote anonymously. An example would be if a forum moderator or admin wishes to vote without giving an appearance of favouritism. There may be other issues as well.
Anonymous votes for the challenge host will not be accepted. But that doesn't matter anyway because the host can't win anything anyway....

An artist may place in the top three, plus HM (Honorable Mention) only once.
If an artist has enough votes to place more than once, the entry with the most votes will be the one that is placed, and the entry with the next highest votes will be moved up.

Voting Ends: 23:59 MT February 22, 2015 (06:59 GMT February 23)

In 2515 mining of deep space asteroids for water and minerals has made much of the past's resource scarcity a dim memory, but it is hard, lonely, and sometimes dangerous work and slow communication times makes keeping in touch with loved ones difficult.

    Theme, Description, Comments…
The government runs the economy and everything else via deeply embedded and controlled tech protocols, but some denizens beat the system and run a shadow economy through bootleg versions of these same protocols. She is a government agent trained to reign in these rebels. He is a rebel with a cause, often underestimated, but he likes it that way. She’s obviously launching an attack on him, he looks defenseless, almost uncaring compared to the robot who’s alarmed, but he has something up his sleeves. With barely any movement, he activates his defense shield by enveloping his head within an energy sphere. It will take the government agents a long time to decipher how he did that.

    A Martian Wedding

    Made or Modified in Carrara
The Hoover chart, with the container was modeled in the vertex modeller.
The tree sampling is made of two Carrara plants, one for the tree, and one for the root.
The background terrain is two terrains. One small for the foreground, and one giant, for the background mountains.

The Dome was made in Hexagon, but the floor and the grass and the tree areas has been modified in Carrara, for texturing and for the replicators.
The grass is my own creation, and replicated. The trees started as some HowieFarkes trees but been modified and replicated.

All textures has been modified and adjusted for Carrara use.

In 2515, on Mars, when someone is getting married, its is custom to plant a new tree in the public areas of the colony. This is a very private thing for the newly-wed to do, as it is meant to symbolize their union, and commitment to the colonies, and as it grows, just like their love for each other.

I did originally start with a little different idea, but as I started to model the dome, this idea started to grow. (and something that the one that I have to remember to tell that I care about told me)

well the entry quality is pretty pro I t hink. Congrats to everyone for making an image and working through the process and especially to Varsel for running a tight ship and Nightshift3d for their kind generosity!

I'm sorry more people didnt get a chance to enter any work - it's obviously a busy time of year what with winter on us and Chinese New Year and the fact that January runs into february which only has 28 days .... ;)

Ha, well I especially liked the works with glow so in no particular order I vote for

It's a groovy little narrative which makes us look hard at the image and thus discovers all it's otherworldly delights.

    Title Noah’s Station

once again Diomede delights us with a well made scene using lots of custom meshes. Diomede gives us the long shot and the close up.

I really like Varsel's work, very slick excellent lighting and its romantic appeal but I think my third vote goes to

I also want to give a compliment to Varsel for picking a great theme. The number of entries was no reflection on the topic. If you check the prior challenges, there were also few entries this time last year. And if I remember my stats class, N=2 is a trend ;-) or maybe it isn't a trend.

Of course, thanks to Daz and Nightshift3d for sponsoring.

Another "Judgement Day", when there are more winners than places available.
Excellent work by everyone, newbies included !!!!!!!!!!

My 2 cents worth, picked by what appealed the most to me, would have happily voted for all the entries but we got to pick only 4:-

1 Entry #1 Artist - Mark D. Olsen (MDO2010) Title: The Lonely Asteroid Miner

    2 Entry #8 Artist - Stezza Title: 2515 I Got Croced

3 Entry #5 Artist - Acudia3D Title: Is this the end?

Honorable mention: Entry #2 Artist - DADA_universe Title: Another day, another (news) story

You'd think it would be easier to pick three with fewer entries, but that is just not the case - I went back and forth on this all week.

    #7 Varsel - A Martian Wedding
#2 DADA_universe - Another day, another (news) story

Still of very beautiful achievements this time.
    My choices:

    1- Entry #2
    Artist: DADA_universe
Title: Another day, another (news) story

It is like that which I see also the future, a whole film summarized in this image !
I like also the perspective to bring out the boy.

    2- Entry #3
    Artist Diomede
    Title Noah' S Station

A beautiful scenario also in this image carried out very well.
I would have liked a little more light on the contents of the arch…

    3- Entry #1
    Artist Mark D. Olsen (MDO2010)
Title The Lonely Asteroid To mine

If there is a future for humanity, it will be thanks to the extraterrestrial resources, this scene symbolizes this idea very well.

Stezza and Head Wax, excellent work, very professional as usual, but allow me to encourage a "newbie" with the honourable mention :

    Entry #5
    Artist Acudia3D
    Title: Is this the end?

I like the atmosphere of the scene, very good for a first render in Carrara !

    Very nice work everybody !

    I hereby vote thus:

    1- Entry #4
    Artist: Diomede
    Title: Valentine's Hangover

I like the way Carrara is used here, and the way the reference to Josie and the pussycats is handled, and of course the humour

    2- Entry #1
    Artist: Mark D. Olsen (MDO2010)
    Title: The Lonely Asteroid Miner

I like the process and the way the image of the lonely miner seems to call for contemplation

    3- Entry #5
    Artist: Acudia 3d
    Title: Is this the end?

Not a bad first render by any stretch.

    Honourable mention :
    Entry #6
    Artist: Headwax
    Title: Queen Bee

    Scary scary!

Thanks everybody for another great challenge!

This was very hard to decide. Varsel picked a great theme at bad time of year for some of us. My apologies again for not entering and contributing more to the excellent WIP thread. I did lurk when taking a break from learning my lines and rehearsing, and was impressed.

My votes, by entry order are:

Entry #1, by Mark D Olsen.
Lots of fun little details in this one. It may be my old eyes, or my old monitor, but I wished I could read the Post-It notes. ;-) I liked the video feed showing the status of the minor, and the different video perspectives of him doing his tasks. I also liked the line of postcards on the side of the window.

    Entry #4, by Diomede.
I really liked the take on all the old 'toons. It was put together really well, with lots of funny little things going on in the background. Very nice nice use of the 'toon scene effect as well.

    Entry #5, by Acudia3D
This is very good for a new Carrara user. Nice light effects. The perspective through the window is cool. One thing that could help this render a lot is that the girls gets lost going down the hatch. If there were a way to change her position, cast a light on her, or something, then I think it would be very compelling. Especially if you could convey an emotion, which I know would be hard with the gas mask.

Very nice posing and use of expressions. Each render you do, you get better.

The other renders were all very good. I wish I could have picked them all.

Varsel, if you hadn't been the challenge host, and my vote would have counted, I would have voted for your scene. It is nice and airy, and at the same time, you get the idea that just outside the windows is a very different environment.

Great work from all the participants on this one, I regret I didn't reserve enough time to put together something, hopefully next time.... Difficult to narrow my votes down, but here goes:

    Entry #1
    Artist Mark D. Olsen (MDO2010)
    Title The Lonely Asteroid Miner

Love everything about this image, especially the post it notes. Just excellent.

    Entry #3
    Artist Diomede
    Title Noah’s Station

Superb, blowing it up to full size you can make out so many little details. The 'force shields' of the ring station have a very believable texture, for example.

    Entry # 7
    Artist : Varsel
    A Martian Wedding

Everything inside the scene is superb, the trees especially look great, but then so does the grass, dirt, the robots, etc. Externally mars looks pleasing to the eye, thought not as red or variated as I might have expected. I wonder if maybe a more exotic sky might have sold the external martian look a bit more? Regardless, it's an excellent and beautiful render.

    Honorable Mention: Entry #5
    Artist Acudia3D
    Title: Is this the end?

Those nuclear clouds are just beautiful, really an engaging render for the outside perspective. I do wish some more interesting lighting had been used on the girl going down the hatch as she kind of gets lost in the mix. Of course the focus of the scene is the explosions going off in the distance, so it doesn't matter much, and they are stellar.

    2nd Honorable Mention:

    Entry #4
    Artist Diomede
    Title: Valentine’s Hangover

Love the sense of humor and play involved in this, as well as all the pop culture references. The toon shader is quite good too.
