Parenting a prop to a bodypart??

I'm sure this has been asked before, but everything I'm finding just isn't....working. I'm trying to parent some free props to an area they aren't designed for (Here's what I'd like to do http://cinefantastiqueonline.com/wp-content/simcoe.jpg)
I used this page, but it didn't work
http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/artzone/pub/tutorials/poser/poser-posing05

I found this:
http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/artzone/pub/tutorials/dazstudio/studio-models10

Should I try to do that? Every time I parent it, it goes to her ear. Not too surprising given that that's where it belongs, but I don't know how to make it parent to where it's at.

Any and all help would be appreciated. :) I'm not exactly a noob at this, but this is well beyond my capability and I could use the brilliance of folks here. :)

What are you trying to parent, link?

    Is it a Smart Prop?

Uuuuhmmm, lemme see if I can find it again. It doesn't seem to be conforming or anything, so I'm not sure that it's a smartprop. I downloaded it from ShareCG and I'm looking on the creator's account now to see if I can find it to link it.

Okay! Nevermind, that isn't where it is lol. Hypothetically, if it isn't a smartporp, how might I go about doing that? If it doesn't work I can always find something else

If it keeps jumping to the ear when it is loaded, then it probably is a Smart Prop.

    Load the earing.
Select the Earing in the Scene pane
Right Click and select 'Unparent '

The earing should now move to the bottom of the Scene pane, again, select the earing if necessary, then move it to where you want it to stay. Once there, go to the Scene paen again, select the earing, right click and select 'Change Parent'. Select the bone that you want it parented to in the window that appears, and that should be that.

When the bone that it is parented to moves, the earing should move as well.

Awesome. Let me give it a try! I did DAZ back in the day, then that computer's motherboard died, the new one couldn't do it, now this one can and I'm back in it and....I want to do things that are out of my realm of ability! lol so thank you!

Okay, that didn't seem to go well. It made the ring move to quite a distance above the figure. I'm going to see if I can find something in a tutorial or something about how to make these kinds of objects.

omg! I was just clicking things and it worked! I checked 'parent in place' and it worked! It isn't perfect and requires adjustment, but it seems to be working relatively well.

It can be hard to get the object exactly where you want it.

I change the views from Perspective to Top and Side to get a better idea of where the object actually is in 3D space, before parenting it.
