How to fit lots of hi-res poser characters into one scene file. Tutorial series.

This series goes through how to create low poly but high(ish) resolution figures and how to animate them.

It's a follow on series from my low poly poser figures series which was geared towards background figures.

Now we are back with the close up series. Similar techniques but we've upped out game.

Please like the series for more like this.

Thanks DUDU - I impatiently wait to get to the next stage!

I'm done with creating the clothes now. 54 sets of clothing. Tomorrow I'll talk about this and get on with converting the 20 or so characters to cr2 files.

    It's coming!

This time I look at how to temporarily organise your runtime and folders for rapid multiple clothing outfit creation.

Yes I know. I'm wanting to get there myself, but I have to show the full path so that everyone can take part.

Just uploading the next bit now .. :)

Yeah I saw that today as well cheers. This system (once you've created the figures) is quicker and very good at reducing poly count. The reason I'm showing the compete work flow is that your decision making BEFORE you get to the decimation stage is also important.

We'll get to the low poly bit in a while. Think of this series as a complete course in generating extras for your movie with the low poly element critical in achieving this aim.

Thanks for this. You may want to look at soft select when doing adjustments so you can smoothly pull out an area (such as the chest in your example) and the smoothing around the edges avoids any harsh creases.

Cheers Phil - I'll experiment with that next time I model.

Now I show how to reduce the polygon count with a high quality third party decimation program.

Thanks for sharing all the info. Just an extra thought - you could also look at deleting the areas of the body that are covered with clothing, and therefore would never be seen. And parts such as the mouth interior if they are going to keep their mouths shut. Although I know that you are looking for fast methods as well as efficient.

Yes indeed. I did this in my first series where I was going for ultra low poly. Here a combination of lack of time plus the desire to "swap out" bits of clothing for a tee-shirt version etc, mean I've decided to keep those polygons in.

Still got about 25 left to do. It's really testing my patience! However worth it in the long run as these characters are used all over the place in the middle of the film.

Another idea (which you probably thought of anyway!). You could just change shaders on different instances of the same character, so for example change the t-shirt colour. Or use the alpha channel to turn on and off certain features, so for example have one character with a belt and another without (hidden by the alpha).

Or as you are rendering in Octane, you could use the Random Color parameter to do this automatically on different instances in a replicator, just to add extra variety quickly and easily. It works pretty much the same as the Instance Randomizer plugin that Sparrowhawke developed (and which I used in my Night & Day City product).

Yes, changing shaders is a quick fix. I didn't know about Octanes random colour parameter so thanks for that I'll have a look at that for sure. :)

I'm creating a new thread for the animating bit I think it would get buried here.

Pleasure. I should add that I've got a low poly series on youtube for distant figures.
