What color is this dress?
75% will see it as gold and white
25% will see it as blue and black
Talk about a shader issue!

weird I just saw this on faceybook
Soooo.... do 25% need to adjust their monitors? I See 50 shades of gold & white. :)
It's not a monitor thing. I'm in a crowd right now and half of us see it blue and black and the rest as white and gold. To me it is very clearly blue and black! And we're all looking at the same picture on the same phone.
Scientific Explanation ??? Mystery ??
Wait....which in the group have been drinking spirits?
Looks white a gold/brown to me. Keep in mind that the white has a blueish tint do to being in the shade, and also from the indirect light it is picking up from the atmosphere.
I see it as blue and gold. Is that because I'm a middle child?
Either that or mike hasn't fixed your PC yet. :-)
Just bring it into Photoshop and it will tell you exactly what color it is.
The experts explain.
Blue and black. Although "black" os more of a brown.
Screw this meme. I say we start our own.
I just ate asparagus and drank a bunch of water..... ;-)
It's just an example of why cellphone photography can suck; it's a badly exposed photo. The woman in the dress posted another picture; the dress is deep blue with black lace. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10155265186000300&set=p.10155265186000300&type=1&theater;
If you see it as purple and orange with yellow spots, time to make an appointment to see head wax!
Come on, nobody wants to argue about if asparagus makes their pee smell funny?!?
I don't eat asparagus. ;-P
C'mon Kev, it's just not up there with lighting beer farts! %-P
I am taking a course about Neocognition of Art and just did a module on colour constancy.

So I kind of knew what to expect, but I didn't expect people to say it was as dark blue as they've said.

I saw this yesterday on a cell phone. The person viewing it with me at exactly the same time and same angle saw black and blue strips while I saw yellow ochre and white strips. I don't doubt the other persons veracity..there is something interesting going on with vision and perception. I would like to hear an explanation.
It reminds me of that fad a number of years ago where there was a hidden 3d image mixed in among a confusing pattern. Once you caught onto the trick of de-focus-ing your eyes you could make out the object, otherwise it was just a meaningless pattern. Some people were never able to see the object.

SileneUK,
Thanks for the link it goes a long way to explain this effect. It is amazing that two people can see such a radical difference in color.
Thanks again
