greetings forum folks, I am in the process of replacing my quadro 4000 with a nvidea gtx 770 on a mac. my main concern is how much benefit will i see in getting the 4GB over the 2GB. i will be using it with carrara, octane and possibly luxus, 3dcoat and a 2 monitor setup. thank you

You'll see a benefit with Octane (more VRAM and, I suspect, better CUDA cores). Luxus will benefit if (and only if) you opt to do a render that makes use of the GPUs. I don't think Carrara will see much, if any, benefit as it is, like Daz Studio, 'CPU-bound'. 3Dcoat I have no idea of.
Having said that, you may well see a more responsive UI in any of those applications.
For Octane, Luxus and the new Luxcore, VRAM is critical and the more you have, the more complex scenes you can render faster.
There are very few gamer cards that ship with 2x RAM, but they exist and I would buy one of those if I was in the market now:
6GB Nvidia:
ASUS STRIX GTX 780

8GB AMD:
MSI R9 290X GAMING 8G

XFX: http://xfxforce.com/en-us/products/amd-radeon-r9-series/amd-radeon-r9-290x-double-dissipation-edition-r9-290x-8dfd

There are more AMD cards and NVIDIA is maybe is preparing the 9xx series with some 2x VRAM offerings...
EDIT: Octane needs NVIDIA, so AMD is out.
thanx SimonJM im thinking the 4gb cant hurt, im on the fence between octane and luxus and i think 3dcoat is going to go gpu soon
3drendero unfortunately i am on a mac and am limited by that for cards those suggestions would be nice. what i am doing is having MacVidCards.com flash and modify the pc card gtx 770 to fit my macpro 3.1.
