Cheap, domestic robot
Uploaded : http://www.sharecg.com/v/80140/browse/11/Poser/VA-Droid_01
Here is something that I have been working on, for a very, very long time. :red:
There is a lot of robots and droids, out there.
But I find most of them a little scary, or industrial looking.
This is the one that you would have in your home, or working in the diner.....
They will come programmed with Asimov's Laws, :
A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
The overall size and shape are based upon Hiro 3.
The bodyparts are moulded plastic.
The joints are protected by a rubber casing.
The hands are basicly a rubber glove, covering the mechanism.
The eyes (or cameras) are still not done yet.
So, is there anything that needs tweaking, changing, remodelling ......
Comments
It looks very good, I used to read Asimov when I was younger. Thing that i maybe would like to see changed is that he wears something like this http://www.oiselle.com/shop/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/d/i/distance-shorts-punch-f_1.jpg because i imagine his legs like this http://www.actionfigurepics.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/McFarlane-NECA-Terminator-003.jpg
But I am not sure if that could be done, and like this it looks very good. Just really nicely done :)
Might consider putting a hinged access panel on the back that flips up to reveal controls and i/o ports.
Looks good.
I love the models just as you've done them. Loose wires and open joints are very hard to clean in a diner ;-)
Does the jaw work?
Lots of material zones when done?
Camera eye sounds like fun.
Thanks for taking your time to look at this.

The leg and hip assembly is a result of form versus function. I have done a lot of testing, and when using the old poser rigging, this was the best way to model it.
But it does look a bit like a pair of speedos... :cheese:
ghastlycomic
Excellent idea.
It will also need a recharging port.
And perhaps a recharging station.

The jaw is fixed. But I will put in a loudspeaker, for those long hours of conversation.
And of course; it will be UV-mapped with lots of material-zones.
The eyes will be posable, .
I think they look very good, very much like out of the movie Bicentennial man. I think they should be left as-is, but with the suggestion of panels that can be opened or hidden to reveal internal gears, wiring, hydraulics and such. Would make for very cool scenes of perhaps a damaged or being serviced.
Varsel -- this is so cool! I'm getting great flashbacks from two of my favorite robot models EVER, shukky's BoneTech and Bco. BoneTech is similar in shape to Hiro 3, while Bco is similar in shape to Aiko 3. Shukky's models can even wear clothes for the models that they are similar to! Do you plan to make your robot able to wear H3 stuff?
You know what would be super awesome? Really simple shafts inside the arms and legs for "bones" that could be exposed if the user wants. I suggest this mostly for selfish reasons. I've been using part of BoneTech as a free version of a prosthesis for a below-the-knee amputee character, but it's a little too busy and fiddly in its internal parts for a realistic prosthesis. Your robot's "shoefeet" would work great as prosthetic feet.
I will definitely be watching this project, as I love humanoid robot/cyborg models, and I'm especially excited to hear that you plan to add plugs and ports.
Do you plan to offer this model as a freebie? What is your time frame for it?

Since I have posted it here in the freepozitory, I now have no other choice than making it free.
The almighty moderators would have kicked me over in an other part of the forum.
I have to admit that shukky was an inspiration for this. This version started when I was searching for a robot for a project I was doing.
I was looking into the BCO, but it was to feminine.
This one is simpler, and more neutral.
At this time there is no plans for any internal bits. Maybe later....
I am hoping to get this ready in about two weeks.
And if I get the rigging right, some of Hiros clothing might fit it.
Cool figure!
Oooooh, now that's something even more interesting! I still love A3 and H3 and have plenty of their stuff ^.^
Aaaaaaw!
Thanks for remembering Asimov ... I love his robot stories.
Hey Varsel, I assume this will be a stand-alone and that Hiro3 is not a requirement for this?
Yep..
It will be a standalone figure.
Awesome, can't wait. Your stuff is usually of pretty good quality and fun to play with. :)
Well done Varsel, it's a perfect companion for B-Co by Shukky. I mlook forward to his release.
Cheers
Here it is.
Not perfect. :red:
There are no textures, but there are UV-maps.
http://www.sharecg.com/v/80140/browse/11/Poser/VA-Droid_01
But when I was working on this, and rigging it, I did see some changes that I will make.
I will later remake this completely.
This one will be perfect to make when I will continue my training in 3dCoat.
Thank you. Going by the number of views and few downloads, I think I'm not the only one that cannot get that website to download stuff willingly. Have spent 15 minutes dumping the cache and reloading the page and all their script stuff, I dunno ... after all these years I'd figure they might have fixed that by now, oh well ... maybe tomorrow.
edit: And of course as soon I say something here, voila! It worked now.
Will try some textures, thanks.
Thank you for that really cute house bot.
I'm convinced that it is a design feature...keeps the leechers, spambots and spiders at bay...
I've had no problems downloading from that site and I can't wait to get this little bugger into some scenes! :)
Then you obviously haven't downloaded enough from there...get to it. Don't stop until you get a dozen broken downloads in a row...
Some people just look and download later - like me.
THANK YOU!
I'm convinced that it is a design feature...keeps the leechers, spambots and spiders at bay...
I have in my life seen 2 business type establishments, one a library and one a post office, for a particular spot of time on the calendar week: "closed so we can serve you better".
Thanks, no downloading issues whatsoever here.
Had time to try a few textures and shaders on it. Also poses nicely.
Very nice model, thank you :-)
I couldn't resist....
DS4.7 render...environmental lighting/raytraced reflections.
This is great.
I love to see my creations in use.
It could need some textures.
I have no clue on how to do that for poser or studio. I work in Carrara....
I redid the render...put an actual floor in...
nicely done mjc, like the addition of Drossel.
Ok... Poser 10, Varsel's bot and hiro clothing..... as long as it's fairly loose? no probs. I tossed tullagaq's kimono onto him and it fit nicely.
Hiro's ,poses etc all work, even aiko's poses 8 )
Over all I give it a 9 out of bleen.
Cheers and thanx Varsel
The dance pose is an A3/H3 one I had running around on my hard drive...works pretty well.
And third version...changed up some of the materials with some carpaint (a true shader that I'm working on converting to DS) and swapped out to a different environment light...this thing then rendered in about 5 mins.
Looks really good. Thanks for posting.
Thank You i just downloaded the droid. It looks amazing and thank You very much for it. I will surely use it.
