Give A Newb some Peace of Mind: Daz Characters with Blender Hair?
Hey guys,
I recently got Blender and feel I am doing well with its learning curve. I'm determined to get good at it! My ultimate goal is to make my visions for characters perfect by combining Daz and Blender into my workflow. This particularly concerns hair creation. Hair is super important to me and I've found myself longing for something better when it comes to putting hair on characters in Daz. I'm no longer satisfied with buying hair, and am particularly unhappy with trying to put long hair on male characters. I'm tempted to buy the Blender add-on "3D Particle Brush," and before I do so I want to hear from some experienced people. Would it be way better for hair creation if I import my Daz characters into Blender? Do you recommend it? Should I just use the strand-based hair within Daz (I'm getting the feeling that it's clunky and limited from what I've dabbled--and I'm getting very used to Blender's controls and find myself trying to use them within Daz LOL)? I just want to get your impression of the "Daz to Blender for hair" workflow as an experienced artist. I'm making still works of art, not games or animation, and I want my art to look awesome and HD.
I'm all ears. Thanks!

I'd use Diffeo for transfering anything.
For sure blender gives you more freedom and tools if you long for perfection. Then as @nicstt says SBH hair can be imported with diffeo anyway, or you can convert transmapped hair to particles. As for daz studio you won't be able to make dforce hair unless you're a PA.

I think it is correct to say that you can't import Blender (particle) hair into DAZ Studio, in case that was also the goal. I might be wrong though.
Hey guys, sorry for my delay in responding! Thanks for your comments! I'll check out Diffeo! And, Marble, yes it might've become a part of my workflow to try to send the hair back to Daz, but that's only because I'm so new at Blender that using it feels awkward with the learning curve, so there would've been a temptation to finish up a work in Daz (if that makes sense). But I'm cramming Blender stuff into my head everyday lol, and I hope I will be comfortable in it soon, to just want to do most of the work in Blender. I will also add Marvelous Designer to my workflow when I can afford it.
But it sounds like you guys have a positive attitude about the idea, so that gives me a burst of pep lol ! Thanks Padone! You have also confirmed my suspicion that the Blender hair workflow will give me more freedom--that's the true goal, just having the best freedom and productivity possible.
One of the regular wizards here, https://www.daz3d.com/forums/profile/2325749/Krys Kryngle, made a great video series on using diffeo.
Oh yeah! I saw that vid, or one like it. Although, I was at work, so now I'll definitely go back and pay closer attention.
I can only second that.
