Bigh, nice one, those meta-ball sims must have taken a while to calculate?
Diomede, I thought it was great, very interesting and fun concept for a race (especially liked the crowd jumping up and down at the end). Used physics I presume?

This is the early work on a dream sequence I am working on. I'm in the process of adding trees and rocks and staging the timing of various elements that will be ripped up into the air based on their weight etc.
Bravo, String Theory! That is freaking cool!!! :ahhh: Love It!!!
Thanks Dartanbeck. It's basically 3 groups of plants and long grasses replicated over the terrain. I then applied a soft body modifier to the plants and grass and then put a couple of flow forces in the scene and reversed gravity. The soft body modifier makes all the pieces of the plants become separate pieces and the whole lot just falls apart as it flies up into the air. :-)
What an excellent effect! I wasn't expecting that! Soft body, eh? Very cool!
I just went through the other posts. Love your figure animation! I haven't dived into figure animation yet... I think I'm procrastinating because I know how difficult it's going to be!
Evilproducer, that's a great effect with the ink!! Everyone has some cool animations going!
I appreciate the words of encouragement, everyone, but... ugh. Jon, yes, I used regular physics, and then set the friction higher for the red ball than the green ball.

Stringtheory - excellent!
Thanks diomede, I really enjoyed watching your clip. I played it a quite a few times hoping the purple tubes would eventually fall over!
I've never tried doing a character animation before. But since I just modeled this "Bender" character, I thought I'd give it a shot.
I was a little over halfway done when I threw the whole thing out and started over (having discovered the wrong way to approach the task).
Take Two is much better, but it still needs a lot of refinement.
I don't know... it's a lot of work for ho-hum results. I think I prefer stills. :)
EDIT: I just noticed that my link wasn't working because this forum apparently didn't like the apostrophe in "Bender's" and converted it to "Benders". ***Fixed***.
The bigger animation looks better than the little 12 frames per second gif that's posted here.

Honestly that animation for Bender looks like it could have been lifted right off of futurama, it's very good indeed, looks just like him, right down to the dance moves. As I understand it, human movement is one of the most difficult things to animate by hand, so it's quite a good animation actually.

Well, I can't take credit for the dance moves. I was using an existing 2D animation sequence as a reference for the key frames.

Well, I am pretty sure this is how animators do it, having a reference is the way to go. Once they get really good at animating they may not need references anymore but in the beginning I am pretty sure most do.

Absolutely!
I remember watching a documentary about the Disney animators around the time of Beauty and the Beast. At that point, aside from The Little Mermaid, not much had been done with animation for awhile, so the animators went back to the archives of cells that Disney keeps and searched through them for things they were having trouble with. I seem to recall, they looked at how they animated horses and things. They even looked at how the bear attack was animated in The Fox and the Hound for ideas on how to animate the Beast during his fight.
Yes, and many of the great animators never quit doing these things that bring them the results they need.
Here is an excellent post by Cripeman: Special Feature:Eadward Muybridge - Grandfather of Animation, which has some great web-surfing and good ol' Cripeman narrative. I love the way his mind works for explaining things.
Speaking of which, for more tips and trick regarding animating in Carrara, Cripeman can have a pretty open mind, and can teach us some really great (and fun) techniques. Just head to his tutorials thread, or try my Cripeman’s Carrara Video Tutorials Index and scroll down to the "Animation" heading, but I find all of his tutorials to be excellent.
I had a pinch of time today and have started a new one which is rendering right now. If it turns out okay I'll upload it. Just a quick and simple setup.

Disney animation is an excellent source of Great animation, in my opinion. Jungle Book has been one of my favorites forever. But their recent works have really been top-notch as well. They truly are masters of the craft! I thought that "Tangled" was spectacular! The hair on the little girl in Brave still has me wanting to change Rosie's hair forever!

Awesome, bigh!
Thanks guys! Had a lot of fun making it ;)
My first WIP for an animation - wow, this is tough! I'd really like to work more on this but if I don't get around to it, this will have to be it.

good work !
thank you !
it was quick - surprise me
Very nice, Diomede!
I watched it over and over!
Looks like Green wins, or are there more heats?

Wow, lots of great animation clips from everyone.
Really cool effect stringtheory! Could be a great cinematic effect!

Thanks evil. I'm hoping (eventually) :-)

I'll attempt to post a small gif here in the thread.
A larger, smoother version can be seen here:

I think you're being to hard on yourself! That looks awesome! I can practically hear him tell me to kiss his shiny, metal, ass!
De3an,
I agree with evilproducer, I think you did a great on the animation and the model is very nice too.
Excellent representation of IK animation, De3an! I really like the model, too! Sweet!
Thanks. I've been wanting to do Bender for some time now. Finally got around to it. Also modeled "Angleyne" (another robot from Futurama).
Thanks Dartanbeck. I did indeed use IK on the legs, with tracking to keep the feet in place via Target Helper Objects.
By the way, I fixed the link in my post. So if you couldn't see the larger version before, you should be able to now.
