Using IK

I’m a new Carrara user trying to experiment with animation and wanted to share my “learn by mistake” experience. I reviewed pages 721-725 of the Carrara manual about Inverse Kinetics over and over but kept getting terrible results when manipulating the IK targets of the left and right feet of Genesis. I realized today that they are describing a character with individual left and right hips whereas Genesis shares only one hip and pelvis with the thighs. After changing the IK chain to make the thighs as parents, rather than the hips, I’m getting much better results. I have regained faith in IK :-)

Interesting tip, thanks. I have so far stuck with Gen4 characters (M4, V4, K4) in Carrara, and I believe they also have only one hip. I haven't fiddled with IK but just use mocaps, preferably in Poser format. Generally I've had few problems.
