Using the bounce modifier + a bit of tilting, faked floating :)
That looks really, really nice!
Thanks for making this project and sharing it. Very fun to play with.
Here a mix of the EP's ocean and a real footage.
One more thanks EP !

not animated.
but so far my best sea shader.
DUDU, that whole underwater short is amazingly good - excellent!
some tips for sea shaders to a plane:
for bumps use natural functions\ cellular with transform to scale it *4 with the waves.
for displacement use natural functions\ water: waves with subdivision.
for foam use copied mixers in some channels,
the mixer should multiply the water: waves with a larger scale cellular.
if the waves are breaking animate the water: wave in the displacement and the foam, but not the cellular in the foam.
you can animate the cellular in the bump by using transform to move it in 90 degrees to the direction that you scaled it.
if the wave are not breaking don't animate the foam, and it could be a cellular with out water: waves.
at most move the foam back and forth with transform.
as non breaking waves do not move the water just i'ts height.
Thanks Daniel, and thank you Lazlo for the tip, to make different kinds of water is always a big challenge in 3D.
Each personal experience is welcome !
That looked great DUDU!
Thank you Grand Master !
i did it with my tips.
Nice work. As I posted earlier in the thread, the easiest way to make foam if you want it, is to use a height/elevation function so that when the wave crests you get the white cap.
For the wave you can also use a wave modifier. Works well on a terrain used as water as well.
Since I know I can't be the only one to ever use the soft body physics modifier to drape an ocean over a cow, I guess the only real question becomess why is nobody else posting examples of this?
Clearly it was the whole point of having oceans and soft body physics and cows in the same program, right?
It needs work on the background, like another ocean instead of a plane - but this was just a Proof-Of-Concept's-Ability-To-Waste-Time test render.
It worked. Time passed! And I think I may be wasted...
I think you may be the only one after all!
That's disturbingly hypnotic!
Thanks, TimA! Cows can be like that sometimes.
I refuse to believe you!
That wouldn't make any sense. Granted, I was surprised the ocean primitive worked with a soft body draping effect and kept it's waves. So maybe others thought that it wouldn't work, and that is why? I know everyone who never tried must have wanted to for a long time!
I don't have the authorization of EP to publish the link .
Now why would that be Dudu ??

Huh?
Share the link all over the web. It's fine by me.
As I mentioned initially, I didn't create the method. I read about someone doing it this way on the old forums, and it came to mind from a discussion in another thread, so I went and recreated the effect. I would credit the person that posted how to do it originally, but I honestly can't remember who it is, or if they still come here...

Here's an animated ocean foam video I did in 2008 with a similar elevation shader.
Private video, change the settings on Youtube...
Just popping in quickly...
You may have been the one that I learned that trick from. The time frame seems about right.
Please sir, take a well deserved bow!
Great to see you back Patrick. Was that you working on a tree generator using replicators? How did that pan out in the end.
Fantastic work, thanks Evil!
Hi Patrick :)
Good to see you're still around and active
Thank you!
We all learn from somebody, and I probably learned this from Patrick. So please thank him as well! :)
ty this is just what i needed for a sinbad render !!
Oooh....will you post the end results for all to see and enjoy? :D
yup deciding on a ship. need to purge the Lou Ferigno sinbad out of my head.
remember this one?
pretty.
and applaud the attached gif actually playing a preview
+ very nice _
