Ethnicities for Toon Generations for G8 characters?

I thought the ability to dial in attributes from different characters would make this a versatile set, but I'm having no luck making my dialed-in 7yo boy into an Asian-American kid. And I have three more diverse kids to create. Is there an ethnicity set for the toon generations for G8 I missed?

I thought commons was for anything? And it's a problem I'm having in Daz Studio with Daz character problem?

    @WillowRaven,

I tried both the G3M and G8M Toon Generation boy/teen to see if I had any luck. I have a massive number of the shaping sets available and what I found was it easy to adjust the cheeks, but changes to the eyes, mouth, nose were very subtle. And that is with pushing dials all the way to the right. I didn't have a chance really push it but I think it might be possible, but will take a lot of multiple dials. Saying this, I am not experienced with the Toons that much, and there are others who are and should be able to advise you better.

Another option is to Cartoonized for G8M or G8F after creating your character.

    WillowRaven,

It helps a lot if you can share an image of the "look" you're aiming for. Sharing an image, even an approximation, might give others concrete ideas on how to help you out, perhaps using another Daz product.

    Cheers!

Maybe you should switch to the Little Ones. They have ethnic varieties.

Thanks for making an effort at it. Don't spend too much time on it as I'm starting to think I need an alternative plan. It's crazy it's this hard to make ethnic, fun kids?!?

I'm still in the beginning stages of choosing a 'look', but the target audience is 7-10-year-old kids in a picture book format. The author is looking for 'whimsical and fun' So I'll be applying some photoshop actions in postwork to give the renders an illustrated-drawn feel. So cartoony isn't a must, but a touch would be nice. Somewhere between realistic and cartoon. So maybe a blend of Growing Up and Cartoonized with younging starter figures? Maybe? Does Cartoonize dial-in? If so, Does it take over facial features as TG does?

The problem with using Litle Ones is they look too young, like preschoolers, which would be fine for another project, but this one needs 7yos. So I need to be able to dial in a character. I started will the limited array of young Asian figures, then dialed in TG so all the kids would have a uniform look other than their ethnic characteristics, but TG seem to completely take over. And I have three more ethnic groups to represent. I'm prob gonna have to look at an alternative plan. Plus, using a character like Little Ones for picture books means ALL of my characters, no matter the book or author, will look alike. Not a good thing. The ability to dial in figures and customize from book to book and client to client was the entire reason I FINALLY started moving from V4/M4.

Does anyone know if there is a master list out there of ethnic characters listed by ethnicity so we don't have to 'guess that exotic figure'?  Thanks for all the help, guys.

Little Ones, Toon Generations, Growing Up, etc. are just morphs you can dial in as much or as little as you want. Combine them together and with other morphs and skin materials to make whatever unique character you want and whatever age you want.

You can probably dial in some ethnicity morphs from other G8 figures. I mean to make my characters I even incorporate "DNA" from characters they don't even sell on the Daz Storefront.

WillowRaven here's what I came up with.

I'm not much of a toon fan, so my approach leaned a bit towards a photorealistic interpretation. Naturally, as an ethnic group, Asians are varied just as any other group on the planet. North Asians, however, appear to stand out in the popular imagination as a stereotypical representation of that part of the world. (Malay, to mention one ethnicity, that I believe doesn't get enough representation.) For this example I started from a G8M base and dialed in Daz products listed here. The key parts are: skin hue; kid shape; Asian facial features. See the images below.

About the cartonization or toon shaping, I'm not sure if that's a good approach. My understanding is that the morphs alter the eyes, giving it large, deep-set shapes. While that may work for a toon Caucasian, it doesn't stand up well for an Asian. On the other hand, a manga-look though, with their large eyes, oddly, suggests Asian-ness in the popular imagination. (Head scratcher, yes!) Just my two cents on the toon vs manga aesthetic.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers!

Got some feedback from my first draft where I used Growing Up and a PS cartoon action ... I'm definitely going to have to use a toon morph of some kind. And I need to go younger ...

Definitely needs to look younger. They are 7/8 years old. They are on a school trip so they all need backpacks. Want them be a little less “realistic” and more “characteristic” if that makes sense. And diverse based on their bios. These are four little boys who wander off on a class trip. The story itself is whimsical and colorful so I want the characters to represent that. LMK if that makes sense.

I probably need to start somewhere closer to barbult's samples and exaggerate from there.

Here was my first, bad attempt...

    WillowRaven,

Glad to hear you got feedback from your client that set you on the right direction. Hopefully you capture the mental image your customer has for this project.

    Cheers!

Here is what I've done so far ... I used G8F with Growing Up and GU Faces (because at that age, boy vs girls can be somewhat blurred with hairstyle and mannerisms and I can't find a male counterpart to Faces) and I am trying to apply some toon characteristics (like head youth) but they simply refuse to apply. I type in the percentage I want to see and nothing happens. But if I try to dial in a toon figure by itself it works. Does GU lock the proportions somehow?

Edit: That can't be it, because I can dial-in Toon Princess head and Bugga Boo head.

Have you looked at SickleYield's "Faces of..." series? Available for males and females. Or maybe Zev0's "200 Plus Head and Face Morphs"? Also for male and female, with several presets. Combined with Cartoonized and Growing Up or Easy Shape Master?

The 1st of the G8 Toon Generations has the multiple skin tones & hair styles needed but no pre-defined presets for any characters not illustrated in the ad renders. The 2nd G8 Toon Generations as well but doesn't have an afro hair style, but the faces I think in that one are easier to caricature as Far East Oriental though .
