Interior lights?

I'm trying to set up a scene in a small room, but I'm struggling with a few things. One is that it's hard to position lights inside the room, because the walls get in the way of the camera if I'm back far enough to see where the light should go. 

 

Another is that I can't seem to deselect something in the scene list if the window is full- what's the trick for this?

 

Also, I can't find the parameters for light intensity in the light tab- instead it brings up presets for lighting and HDRs.

 

Maybe I just need to get some sleep...

  • I normally use ghost lights to light interior spaces. However, DAZ 4.20 seems to have a problem with ghost lights, so until that is fixed I will be working mainly on outdoor scenes. I expect there will be a reliable work around in about two weeks.

     

    Have you tried changing the focal length of the camera. Using DAZ is a bit like using an DSLR camera, if you want to work in a small room you use a wide angle lens.

     

    Sorry, I don't quite understand your question about deselecting things.

    With most interior sets you can make individual walls invisible, either by reducing the opacity to 0 in surfaces, or by switching off visibility by clicking on the eye symbol in the scene tab.

    Go to the scene tab and click on the little check symbol of your room. Now the room can no longer be selected with your mouse in the viewport.

    In IRAY you adjust the brightness of your lights by changing luminous flux/lumen.

    Also, Iray Section Plane Nodes allow you to see throw walls without needing to hide walls/objects or change their opacities.

    Making walls invisible helped, thanks. I'll have to look for Iray Section Plane Nodes.

    I found a couple of Iray Section Plane Nodes items. A little too spendy for me at the moment, but there's this: Iray Stand Kit | Daz 3D which looks like it speeds up rendering time a lot. Is this worthwhile? Pretty cheap.

    You can create Iray selection planes in the program without ever having to purchase a product. Create -- New Iray Selection Plane Node, it's not actually visible in viewport, but you can do this for free and move it around yourself.
