Is it possible to copy and paste objects from one scene to another?

I have been making characters with various poses and equipment in their own scenes but I do eventually want to include all the characters together in one scene. But I have been unable to find copy and paste commands and I am not sure how to save character presets and what not. Can someone please help me with this or if there is a tutorial somewhere someone can point me to that would be very helpful also.

Thanks in advance!

Bruce

File>Save as>Scene Subset should do the job, when you double-click a scene subset in the content panes it is merged into the current scene.

Saving character preset is pretty easy, just select save as>character preset. This puts a copy of it into a folder, in your my documents usually, and you can load them into anything you like later.

I find it easier on my work flow to go through and do all the major character first before I start a new story/chapter. Then its just click , load, pose and go.

Thanks! Hopefully I can get it to work.

I have saved poses that I think may be useful that I put together but I have not been able to recall them to use on another character.

Character and material presets work great for storing the "differences" between characters without making too many scenes in the main work area from the point of view that scenes tell the story your working on. The Sub Scene and Preset directories are out of the way from that point of view and can take the clutter.

And yes if you modify one character or asset in a crowd/group then saving it as a sub scene works great, as Richard said the program knows to Merge content loaded from a subset directory

I often save simple scenes with just one character - perhaps posed and then merge it into a master scene... These I normally save in a sub directory of the scene they are used in. This is normally done in the interests of grouping custom morphs I might imbed with the scene they relate to.

NM! I posted before I read BlueSirus’ post. Though the scene subset is excellent to know!!! I’ve been saving my characters as scenes... is that okay, you think?

Scene Subset has the advantage that, with a default double-click, it is added to the current scene rather than loaded in place of the current scene. Scenes are good for when you do want to load the content in place of whatever is currently loaded, and also they will (by deault) bring in the Render Settings and(as I recall) Simulation Settings. Neither is wrong or right, it's a matter of whether they suit your workflow 9and you can always use right-click to Merge a Scene instead of Opening it if you are using the content panes)

Scene Subset is a great way to save a completed character with hair, clothing and any props.  This is especially good if you have a character that you want to use again.

Also, a character preset doesn't load with the lashes or eyebrows - those would have to be saved as wearable presets (like the hair).  This is another reason why I use scene subsets.
