Understanding keyframes and transforms (questions from a noob)

Hi all,

I'm trying to understand how the keyframes in the timeline works in regards with the transforms when dealing with poses. For my workflow I do several still images per scene by using mutiple keyframes in my timeline. Sometimes I create poses one keyframe right after the other and in some cases I leave empty keyframes between poses. But to this day something frustrates me a lot. For example, if I create a new pose let's say keyframe 10, why will the new pose affect the previous pose(s) I had already created in keyframes 9 and below? I have ruined so many scenes in the past because I didn't know better. Nowadays, I save every single pose I create so I can reapply it. When I have multiple characters in the scene and mutiple keyframes and each pose takes anywhere from 20 seconds to over a minute to reapply, it becomes very cumbersome and infuriating.

two questions pop into my head:

1. Why this happens?

2. How can I prevent the next sequential pose in the timeline change a pose in a previous keyframe?

I tried to use the search in the forum for an answer, but we all know that button is a perennial April's fool prank.

Thanks in advance.

It's probably because one bodypart wasn't keyed on an earlier key, so that limb is moving between frames say 1 and 10. What you want to do is right click the character in the scene tab, select all children, and then set a keyframe on every pose you make and that should alleviate the problem for you.

In the animation class I'm in, they teach us in Maya, so every keyframe we select all the limbs and hit S to set a key so what you're describing doesn't happen, but the method above will work here in Daz.

To do what bennie is describing in DS, you'd select the figure itself, then click the key+ button at the bottom of the timeline with key creation scope set to "Node Recurse". Do this for each keyframe you create, since you're not animating.

Oh! Sometimes in Daz, you'll get some weird, wonky movements between two keyframes that shouldn't happen at all by any logic, just highlight the two keyframes and set the tangeant to linear and then set it back to TCB and the problem should be fixed.

Thanks for the suggestions and quick reply. I'll try those and see how it goes.

    Cheers

Do you have a collection of tips somewhere or video?  I've picked up my best animating tips from random posts and my own post you were kind enough to pop in and help with.

Sadly I don't have any videos or tips anywhere. If I had more time, I'd definitely consider it. But I'm always more than happy to give some tips if anyone is having a problem that I know how what it is and how to fix :) So feel free to reach out anytime here in the commons or private message me, I don't mind at all!

Your inbox may come to regret that but I do thank you for the offer and will likely take you up on it some time in the future :)

    Hi all,

Here necroposting my own thread. I had forgotten about this completely. Today I'm trying what Gordig suggested, but when I do this (i.e. select figure, change key creation scope to Node recurse and click key+ button), DAZ goes to "Not responding" for too long forcing to force quit DAZ. I only have 2 charactes in the scene with no other prop in the scene aside for what they are wearing. I only have set keyframes a 1 and 30.

    What could be the issue?

In case it matters, I'm using DAZ 4.22, W11, with 64 GB ram and RTX 3090 driver 560.94

    Thanks in advance.
