drachenlords - well, now that's a cool idea, and superbly done.

Drachenlords: Two fantastic renders. I feel for the frog!

adbc, Sorry, but for me this is not an improvement. Now the dinobird is too much in the middle of the frame for me. I would have tipped the right wing down (and left wing up) in the original scene, so that the right wing was in the frame, but otherwise the animal was in the same spot.

This might be my last entry, though I am thinking about another one (with a bigger animal). There are five flamingo's with multiple instances, mostly for the ones that are already in the air. They are from the Songbirds (previously at Hivewire 3d, now available at Renderosity). The background terrain is the tiled terrain I used before. The sky is a HDRI by David Brinnen and Horo. The water is one infinite plane and a flattened cube with a higher frequency texture. And there is one droplet instanced many, many times.

I call it: Flamingo's are go!

Hansmar : thanks for the comment. To me both look OK and I prefer not to mess with the wings of the bird, as you explained and probably make it worse, it's a contest so let the judges decide, the second  being the final one. Great flamingo render, beautiful droplet effect on the water.

Hansmar - very nicely done flamingo scene.

Hansmar - a beautiful scene, though a bit busy for me, great water texture and droplets.

I guess I did not explain my idea very well. What I meant was a small rotation of the full animal where the right end would get somewhat lower and the left end somewhat higher. So no messing with the mesh at al. But, it all is up to the artist and, anyway, it is already great!

adbc, Horo, Mermaid, Thanks very much.

Horo, Majestic render (and animal) indeed. Very well lit. I suppose you used your mirror box and the canopy of the trees is actually a terrain?

  • mermaid010mermaid010 Posts: 5,485

Horo - an excellent render, awesome forest and lighting

  • HoroHoro Posts: 10,636

Hansmar - thank you. Yes, two terrains one above and one below and the "trees" are actually a bunch of symmetrical lattices, the whole stuff in a mirror box, a bit blueish haze and an HDRI as the only light source.

    mermaid - thank you.

Horo : fantastic render, the colours and setting is awesome.

Hansmar : I tried what you suggested and indeed the bird looks better in his initial position, rotated a bit. Horo and yourself gave contradictory comment, both specialists in Bryce, it was a bit confusing to me and I don't want to offend anyone. I just hope I get it right this time

adbc - thank you. Ideas and recommendations may differ, in the end, of the artist is always right. I also like this version very much.

    My third entry.
    Title: Dragon Sculpture
Used: Millenium Sub Dragon LE, Small World HDRI and Hyper Textures Expansion. The HDRI used is the modified-for-Bryce "Footprint_Court" HDRI from the DVD to the book "The HDRI Handbook 2.0" by Christian Bloch. Rendered with DOF.

    Dragon Sculpture

    Replaced by a new render.

adbc, I agree with Horo: recommendations may differ, for various reasons. Ideas on how to put things in a picture are largely also based on personal preferences. And, by the way, while Horo is a Bryce expert, I am just a struggling amateur. Nevertheless, this is a great render, in all versions. You can choose the one you like best.

Horo, what a great render. Love the light through the wings. Though I suppose it is all logical. I do find the contrast of the pedestal versus the floor a bit strong. It leads to the perception (incorrect, I assume), that the pedestal is not on the floor. Perhaps you can add a little light on front part of the floor, without additional light on the pedestal? Just my personal suggestion, of course.

mermaid, Horo, Hansmar : thank you. I'll stick to the third version of the "Land before time", after all definitely the best one, thanks for the help.

Horo : cool idea, superb render, great lighting.

  • HoroHoro Posts: 10,636

Hansmar - thank you. I agree that the lower part of the stand is a bit on the bright side, though it is light that comes from below as can be seen from the shadows on the floor. Perhaps I try a faint negative light to see whether it can be improved.
"... while Horo is a Bryce expert, I am just a struggling amateur". I have to add that while you are an artist, I am just a tech guy with an interest in creating pictures without any art education and sometimes I get something good just by accident.

    adbc - thank you.

Hansmar - thanks again, I rerendered the scene with a less bright pededstal and replaced it above.

Hansmar - two very nice scenes, I like the second more. There are probably a lot of beautiful fish in the river, though I cannot see them devil
