edited July 2015 in Carrara Discussion

Entries are now closed and THE WINNERS HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED!

I don't see that anyone self-identified as a "new" Carrara user so I guess we will give the $10 prize for the usual "Honorable Mention" instead.

The WIP thread is here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/57301

Voting Rules:

  1. Anyone with a DAZ3D account can vote
  2. Please vote for three entries and an honorable mention.
  3. Order does not matter - so do not list a "1st," "2nd," etc. just give your three votes and your honorable mention vote
  4. In the event of a tie for the top three places the higher prize will go to the person with the most honorable mention votes; if ties persist after looking at that then I will reopen voting for a tie-breaker between just the tied entries
  5. Anonymous votes will be accepted with good reason (e.g. forum moderators who do not want to give an impression of bias) via private message
  6. Voting Ends: Saturday, 25 July 2015 23:59:59 CST (GMT-6)

Thank you to our generous sponsor DAZ 3D for offering the following awards to the winners:
1st Place: $100.00 towards DAZ 3D owned item(s)
2nd Place: $50.00 towards DAZ 3D owned item(s)

Any items you made or modified yourself:

Shaders for Hulk, Book, V4 Customized shaders (not really obvious in cartoon format).

    Pre-made Content Used:

Freak 4, Bookcases from Real University, V4, M4

So, I had this really strange dream the other day. I was trying to install something on my mother's computer. It would not load. When I got to look at what I was trying to install, it was Twilight - Hulk poetry. Now that's about the time I woke up, so I'm not really sure what Twilight - Hulk poetry is, but it did inspire the following.  Used Photoshop / Filter Forge with a comic book filter.

i made: the eyes the maze the tower etc.

pre made: freak 5, horned barbarian, some morphs and texture for the freak.

a copy of the wip post to explain the post work:

       bottom layer:
photorealalistic render with brush strokes in pd howler and some blur.

       next layer:
like the bottom but not same brush, very low opacity grain merge.

       top layer:
toon iii render with line as white the rest are black.
fill the background black, desaturate some blur and invert.
move the layer to fit the movement by the brush strokes.
crop the image to fit the move.
resample the image to meet the load size.

i tried to have a "heavy metal" comics magazie look.

  • oops!

    forgot the image.

OK, I don't know anything in this kind of topic treated in this challenge, but I will vote all the same even to only recall that there is a challenge on this forum:

    1-Entry #2
     Title: Sword of Tristram
     Artist: Stezza

    2- Entry #6
Title: Archangel Chronicles: The Wars Amalgamation Wars
    Artist: Redhorse

    3- Entry 1
    Title: New Career
    Artist: ncamp

    HM:
    Entry #5
    Artist: Diomede
    Title: Brash Lonergan: Interstellar Marshall

I liked the entry “Chickenman Jousts”, but the perspective isn't so good and the horse seems inserted in the wooden beam.

    Good work everybody !

Hey, some wonderful work :) did I already say that ?

I had a great laugh at the humour of some of the work  and some of them had me wanting to turn the page, to see what would happen next in the narrative

For my third vote it was a toss up between Bunyip Chicken man and Stezza, especially because in Stezza's work at the top of page two, the guy in the dark outfit seem to be doing something rude to the back of the man dressed in orange - who is either squealing in pain or joy.... and I thought  that was a little off putting given the modern propensity of youth to go all out and out in the quest for violence . But in the end I quelled my emotions and went for

Voting is never easy in these.  Aaargh.  Excellent work, everyone.  This time we have a mixture of panels and covers, making it especially hard for me to choose.  I would buy them all.  In the end, I chose Stezza's because of the staples.  I chose Schlomi because it did really make me feel like one of the classic Heavy Metal issues.  I chose Redhorse because it is such a clean sharp cover with the heroic character poses.

    -------

First off, pretty awesome efforts all round.  I've never done anything like this myself, and feel almost unqualified to vote.  Still, If I'm allowed to then... here we go.

I chose Stezza's entry for first place because it looked exactly like a comic book to me and the images themselves invited second and third looks on my part.  The use of ComicLife really added a lot too I think, and was even a bit educational for me.  All round amazing

Second place was a bit tougher... I went with Redhorse, again because of the overall look, and the artwork really blew me away.

Third to Diomede... this was tough because I actually liked Diomede's story the best.

HM: to Chickenman ... humor with concept, very clever.

Overall I'm amazed something like this can be done using Carrara.  I'm not used to seeing 3D renders for Graphic Novels.  Pretty educational.  Thank you!
