Making the Justice League

I've been working on this project all afternoon, and it's coming along for the most part. I've wanted to do a version of the Justice League. I've been looking at costumes and such for a while and there were only one or two that I really liked. So it occurred to me that with Iclone being out there now, it might be time to take a stab at the project. I didn't constrain myself to classic Justice league but rather the costumes that I favor. In addition to that, I didn't want to duplicate an existing figure like just putting the M4 suit on Michael 4 and hit the render button. I spent some time today getting the base figures together with the materials I liked in Iray. These are just the prototypes. So far I've got a group of figures that make me happy and I'm going to stick with them However. I have determined that I am going to have to do Superman and Wonder Woman's hair in Zbrush. I've never been very happy with the DAZ hair and when you are going for a specific look, it's really disheartening to see it out there and know that there are 1300 other guys with that exact same hair figure. I have a very specific look in mind for each one and while I've gotten the skin tones that I like for each one, I really want to be happy with the look overall so that means putting in a few development hours. Batman is taking the longest because I'm adapting the Dark Knight Armor which is going to take a while. I don't think anyone's ever done that set for Genesis 2, so I'm doing it basically from scratch. This is Bruce Wayne. There's a lot of poke through on the suit, but I'm going to get to that. I basically wanted to give Bruce his face today.

The Wonder woman costume that you see here is custom designed. It hasn't been completely surfaced yet, There are no shortage of Wonder Woman outfits out there for V4, and there are some good ones but none of them fit the look I was after. This is a single piece that's designed specifically for the Wonder Woman figure I made. It's done from Scratch.

Now Supes is actually Iceboy's Man of Steel outfit that I have converted to Genesis 2. It Wasn't a perfect conversion, but for the most part I got the look on the suit that closely matches the movie version. I'm not really happy with the hair so tomorrow I'm going to see how it goes in ZBrush with Fibermesh.

Okay, so I've continued working on the Dark Knight. I have to say that it's been an experience. I believe that I may redo it at some point. In some ways I'm happy at the outcome, but there are other things that i'm concerned about, so I'm going to re-approach it at some point. Let's Start with the progress on Batman.

I spent some time adapting a figure to the Genesis Supersuit. I reused itas a starting bodysuit but the first thing that I did was strip away the Material settings and re-rig it for the Genesis 2 Male. I also added a few polys to the neckline in keeping with the Dark Knight's Version of the costume. I acually re-used the padding from a free model. I turned each pad into a separate piece of geometry and then attached it to the suit. Then I took the suit into Zbrush and got it to lay on the supersuit properly. In this picture --it's not rigged. I was trying to make sure everything looked proper. The next time I do this, I'm going to redo the supersuit in 3DCoat to get the pads on there in the right place but have it all be part of the same geometry.

To be honest, I didn't like the Dark Knight Cowl, so I didn't reuse it. Instead, I adapted an Old M3 Batcowl From Heromorph. It wasn't that difficult. The geometry was simple  and there were only two textures so it worked out pretty well. I was a little worrked about the rigging, but everything seemed to go pretty well.

I won't call Batman finished, but I'm quite happy with the progress, and so I'm going to call it ready to show. I just reused The Genesis Cape for Super Suit. The MK 1 Suit was quite a learning experience for me. I hope that the Mk2 Suit will be much improved.

Not one to rest on my laurels, I am continuing to work on the Wonder Woman Prototype, since she's the one that's going to require the most work. The initial tests came out well, but I imagined that since I was doing the movie versions of the Dark Knight, and Man of Steel, it wasn't fair to just put Wonder woman back in her classic outfit. Right now, I'm preparing to do another version of her armor that more closely matches her movie version, so she doesn't seem out of place. I'm not starting work on that till tonight, so we'll see how it's going to work out.
