Mirrors and mirroring

How can I take a character I've created and show them in a mirror (i.e. reverse their pose exactly)?  And/or how can I place a mirror in a scene to reflect everything as realistically as possible?

    To mirror a pose:

Press Shift+Y to open the Symmetry dialog and use the following settings:

    1. Nodes: Root
    2. Propagation: Recursive
    3. Direction: Swap Left and Right
    4. Trunk Nodes: Mirror Across Y Axis

    Click "Accept."

If you plan on doing this often, you can go to the preferences tab in the symmetry dialog and select "Set Preferred Options on Accept" to have it open with these settings every time.

    To make a mirror (Iray):

    1. Select the object you want to have a mirror surface. You can pick an existing object or create a new plane and scale appropriately.
    2. Click on the Surfaces pane and select the appropriate surface (for items with more than one surface available) in the Editor tab
    3. Click on the Presets tab and find the Iray Nickel Shader: Iray ->Metal-> Metal-Nickel
    4. Go back to the Editor tab and apply the following settings:
      1. Change Glossy Reflectivity to 1.0
      2. Change Glossy Roughness to 0.01

.There are also several mirror props that have reflective surfaces already, so you could find one (either included in something you may have or as a freebie somewhere) and avoid having to create your own.

  • Thank you for your help.  I'll try these now.
