Pin tool disappeared - how to restore?

Hi,

I was experimenting with the 'pin tool' - the little pin located at the top left corner of the viewport, along with the dials and figure representing the tool to restore poses - and it has suddenly and inexplicably disappeared.  Worse, I cannot find how to restore or unhide it!  Can anyone please enlighten me how to get this to reappear in the viewport, as it was proving quite usefulj, and I am getting rather exasperated?

Thanks!

  • On the right from "perspective view" there is a viewport options icon (looks like lines of text with little triangle). Click on it and activate "Show Pose Tool".

  • Thanks for the help, sadly it hasn't reappeared.  Still at least I know it's properly called the pose tool now!  I have also ensured that I have a part of a figure selected, which I gather is a prerequisite for it making an appearance.

What you need to do, is to go to Window > Panes (Tabs) > Tool Settings, and click on the 'Home Menu' and 'Pins Menu' on the buttons that say 'Enable', that toggles these two icons on and off.

Make sure that you have the Translate tool selected in the Tool Settings pane (and do the same for any other tool that you want it to work with,.

  • Thank you, I tried that (had not found that in all my attempts) but still no joy even with the Pins menu enabled there and the Translate tool selected.   However, I have uninstalled and reinstalled DS 4.8 and it has now reappeared, and the setting you pointed out is now enabled.  Bit of a sledgehammer to crack a small nut but at least a solution, and help appreciated.  It does concern me though that DS can 'decide' to ignore it's own configuration - makes it feel like it is still beta software.  Perhaps I should not expect more from something that is 'free' up front, but paid for by anticipated content sales (I have spent more than enough to cover it :-) ).  Note to self - make more frequent backups.

I never experience any problems with the configuration of DS, even after installing an update.

Make sure that you are running DS as administrator if using Windows, otherwise the config file may not be written to properly.

I hope DS will behave better in future, as it does for you.  I am definitely running it as administrator - I am the only user of the machine and using the administrator account (though the Unix administrator deep inside me is screaming 'No, no, no, don't do that!  User software should never need root privileges!').  I'll tell him to butt out.

Even if you are using an administrator account, the application does not have admin privileges unless you right click and choose "Run As Administrator" or set it to Run As Admin in compatibility settings.

  • Ah, OK, thanks for that.  In that case I am not running DS 'as administrator', not in that sense.  I am logged in to the administrator account (mine, the only account on this machine), and clicking the DS icon on the desktop.  This is Win 8.1, fully updated, if that's of any relevance.  Should I be right clicking the icon and selecting 'Run as administrator' - is that really necessary?

It shouldn't be, but sometimes a setting change that won't persist will do so if you run as Admin once to change the setting.

  • Hmm, OK, thanks, will bear that in mind.
