Tutorial: Easy cartoon effect for renders.
I don't visit the forums as often as I used to, but I do like to contribute, when I've got something to share.
I came up with a nice little cartoon effect that requires no shader setups, or special lighting outside of the default D|S lighting setup. Just a few simple to pull off photoshop actions. I call it the "Soft Serve" method.

Works very nicely and initial render goes fairly quickly once all of the lights are deleted. Thanks for sharing!

You're very welcome! I had the post work figured out for several months, but when applied to my renders they always lost too much detail. Something about using that default lighting setup agrees more with it. Here's one of the comparisons I did. On the left is with the lighting deleted, as prescribed in my tutorial, on the right is with an AO/IBL setup. With the lights deleted, not only is the render time rediculously faster, but it looks way better with the post work applied than the other.
Nice... I value speed of render over realism of lights, and I've been looking for a quick, easy comic effect. I'll have to try this.
